Re: Yeah - I remember that!
I was walking down a street in Edinburgh with K some weeks ago and pointed out a place I used to go to when I was 18 -20. There was two floors of music...downstairs for the punks then new romantics. Upstairs was the grab a granny nights. How sad is that because the grab a granny nights were for women in their 30's. As I walked past and remembered I am now well past even the grab a granny age. I wonder what the young kids now say about being naughty in my forties???

Monkey socks! Mom made stuffed animals, looked like monkeys from gray socks with white toes and heels, with a red insert in the toe that made the mouth.

And Mothra, and the 50-Foot Woman, and The Incredible Shrinking Man, and The Day the Earth Stood Still (btw, I heard the recent remake is cr*p)--I loved all that horror/sci-fi stuff when I was a kid.
Does anybody remember The Tingler, a movie for which some theaters had random seats wired to shake when the tingler creature was supposed to have gotten loose and even escaped the screen and gotten into the theater? My brother and I saw that at a Saturday morning matinee when we were about 8, and the memory is as fresh in my mind as if it had happened THIS morning. To see it today--well, it seems unsophisticated in technique and schlocky in theme and plot, but in 1960--holy mackerel, it was the height of horror!
Speaking of which, it seems incredible to me now to think about how my parents used to just blithely drop us off at the local movie theater to watch whatever fright-fest was featured. I mean, we positively LOVED the movies, the scarier the better, and I don't think we're any the worse for it. But imagine parents doing that now? No way!

Roadan was the flying one. And yes we were just dropped off at noon and waited out front at 2:30 or so to get picked up. What a great time that was.
