Re: Yeah - I remember that!
Here's another,
How many of you had to start your car by "POPPING THE CLUTCH"?
Turn the key on, put the car in 1st gear with the clutch in.
Either have the car on a slight hill and let her start to roll, or have a few friends start pushing the car.
When you get a bit of speed,, let the clutch out FAST,, and hopefully,,, she'd start with a buck and sometimes a bit of a back fire and off you go!! lol

Still do that! Starter went out on the car last year, and I started the car for 3 days that way until I could get a new starter. This past summer I forgot to turn off the lights on the Harley, and had to bump start it because the battery wouldn't spin the engine fast enough to start it.

My '57 Chevy with the fuzzy dice on the mirror and pinstriping designs. Replaced the "3 on the tree" with a Foxcraft shifter from 'Honest Charleys Speedshop..." Wish I had it now..

Re: Yeah - I remember that!
One of my girl friends lived at the bottom of a hill and her daddy didn't like me none. After dropping her off late at night, I'd go to the top of the hill and come back down with the '51 Chev in gear and the lights and switch turned off. Right in front of the house, the switch went on and.....
I got by with it until one night, I left the muffler layin' on the road in front of the house. Never saw her after that.
Nah, you guys probably never did that kind of stuff.

Re: Yeah - I remember that!
A car dealer we used to have fix our 57 Buick ( was broken every week ) had these old junks he would give us as loaners and call them by names like Give them the Eldorado a 1947 Caddy or the Riviera a 1943 Buick , My favorite was the T bird a 52 Ford all rusted junk. We would drive a round turning the key on and off and shoot flames out the tail pipe. that and smoke the tires.

OH BOY NOW you've done it. We are into car memories. 1952 (?) Hudson Hornet with the dual down draft carb. Been so long ago I can not remember the exact year, but was she fast. And those fold down seats....TROUBLE

Re: Yeah - I remember that!
Friend had a Studabaker that you shifted 3 gears then you hit a button and shifted 3 more gears. I had a 1950 Dodge Meadobrook that you could either shift with a clutch 3 speed or you could leave in 2nd and not use the clutch. Fluid drive. They had a lot of great ideas back then .

Re: Yeah - I remember that!
Back in the mid-fifties, I ran a '39 Chevy coupe with a '54 Corvette 6 and three 2 barrel side drafts. All that was hooked up to a 3 sp Lincoln tranny. No longer have the car, but there are still boxes full of drag racing trophies. No cash prizes back then, we just did it 'cause we loved it.
That count or does it just make me old?
BTW, my first ride was Cushman Super Eagle and a bit later, the first Honda 300 Dream (actually a 305) on the east coast. Remember either of those?

Re: Yeah - I remember that!
I got the key for my Honda DREAM still hanging in the garage. My first ride was on the back of a 305 Dream. 14 years old and MOM still doesn't know. She died 38 years ago so my secret is safe .
