Default Wind Dams for the Stallion

I found it. Here is the link:

Stallion Trike Trikes from Southwest Trikes in Phoenix, Arizona

This looks like a great new product from our friends at Southwest Trikes!

They do such good work, I wish they would post some more on this site, or become a dealer sponser like Zook.

They tried to go the extra mile and set up a Trike forum, but because they were dealers it made it difficult to manage.

With that said, great job from the looks of it, I cannot wait to get a pair on my Stallion!

I ordered the Wind Dams.

They said it would be about 10 days to receive them. That was 6 weeks ago. I am still waiting. I have followed up 3 times and each time they have fail to meet the deliver date promised.

I guess red wind dams or the only ones they are putting out so far.

I was going to make my own but their style was a lot better looking then what mine would have been.

I will post when I do have them..

I ordered mine on 24 February and Jim told me 7-10 days at that time. I called at the end of 10 days and again about 2 weeks after that date. Each time I talked to Jim and each time he told me they would e-mail me an update but no update ever came.
Then somebody else on this board put me on to Kathy at Southwest last week. I e-mailed her and received a response the next day. She told me she had 2-3 sets of black cherry coming in last Thursday, one set was mine. She was going to send me a tracking # as soon as they shipped. I received another e-mail from her Saturday saying that they didn't arrive until late Friday night. She promised me a tracking# today but as of 15:52 hours it has not come forth.
While I am at it, I may as well give a report on the BakerBuilt windshield extension. This is installed above the windshield. They come in 9", 15" and 18". I have the 15" and I can't say enough good about them. They took that wind roar off my helmet which is what I was looking for. This Stallion is sweet now.

Please, be sure and post us as soon as you can, on how well they work for keeping the wind off the passenger, I think there are several of us just waiting to see if these will really work well. I have talked to TMS more than once, about their deflectors, but all they say is that their working on it.

Here is a short video clip that shows the windshield extension and air wings. The weather is sour here and I have not been able to get out and get a shot. I found out later that the position in the video is not the best position. It works better if it is folded all the way down inside the windshield, in other words 180 degrees from the position in the video.

Fortsand,
Your video did not come through. You may want to start posting to Youtube, we found that was the best way to post videos.

I got my wind deflectors several days ago, from Kathy at Southwest Trikes. They are for my Black Cherry Stallion. The weather here in the Puget Sound area has not been good for riding, snow and mixed rain and snow, so I have not been able to get anyone to ride with me to see how much they help. Was hopeing to take the trike to the LA area this weekend but it looks like I will end uo taking the chage. I am so ready for some good riding weather. I will post as soon as I get a co-rider assesment on the wind dams.

The wind dams were a disappointment for me. First, they were shipped in bubble wrap and it left impressions on the paint. The color match is right on and the paint looks real nice in the areas where the bubble wrap did not make contact. Second, the fit at the top is unacceptable, (see pictures). Southwest did not do their homework on this. I have talked to one other member who had the same problems.
All of a sudden the way I learned to post pictures doesn't work anymore.

I just received an e-mail from Southwest concerning the wind dams.
They are having Fedex pick them up at my house.
Kathy also told me that they have learned that Thoroughbred had five different molds for the Stallion with fiberglass body. They are not going to ship anymore to owners with fiberglass bodies.

This is what SouthWest posted on their site referencing the Wind Dams
(Link is in an earlier post)

* It has just come to our attention that the Wind Dams don't fit all the Fiberglass Stallions because of discrepancies in the molds.
* We are re-engineering them to be more universal.
* The new injected molded plastic bodies for 2009 will be uniform and we are developing a Wind Dam for them.
* They probably won't be available until June.

Them hand laid fiberglass bodies are special, Truly one of a kind.
I wonder how they are going to make them more universal.

If they use rubber they can stretch them.
Anyone else care to venture a guess?

I thought about filling in the gaps with clear silicone, then painting it (the silicone). If they had not had the bubble wrap impressions, I may have tried it.

For what they charge for them, they need to fit right.

I was wondering if TMS left any ID on the body somewhere indicating what mold was used. This might be a way to get one made for each mold.

If they are that much different I'm really interested in how they are going to make a more universal Wind Dam. The visual I get is a very sloppy fit for all of them.

Was it made of fiberglass or ABS plastic. I wonder if they are going to make Plastic ones on the ABS bodies. If so I'd think the price should go down on the ABS Wind Dams.

I really appreciate how quick Southwest was to respond to the concern! Seems they would really like to keep the customers happy --- and that is important.

It also sounds like the hand-laid fiberglass would give them a challenge with any accessory they devise. I do hope they are able to work things out for all of you with the "old" Stallions.....not that any Stallions are old yet!!!!

SW Trikes called me last night to cancel my order. She said they would have a new way of how they mount up to the trike in about a month. They would post the new version on their web site they had a fix to the problem.

When I ordered mine, they told me 7-10 days, they were delivered
38 days later. With that in mine, then the month they spoke of to get the mounting updated will in reality be 3-6 months.

Default Baker air wings for the Stallion

Well I have had enough time to work with my Bake air wings. Here is what I found:

Attached are the pictures of how I currently running my air wings. I only had the lower air wings. I received the smoked with black coated metal.

1. Don't follow the directions!!!!!! If you do, since most of the hand laid fiberglass bodies are different you may do what I did, and drill according to the pattern only to find out that it did not fit! So I placed it on by hand and marked the holes by hand and then drilled the second side. If you do it that way you will be much more satisfied with the fit! And the fit looks good. I like the fact that you still have room to put your foot on the plastic piece above the break and gas pedals. Some of the other wind dams use this area to attach to the Stallion, and I like to have options to stretch my feet on long trips.

2. I took off the upper portions of the wings. They came in two parts, and the upper part kept spinning around, and it seemed to not do anything. It looked like Baker just took their standard two part wing and suck it on the Stallion mount they made. It looks much better with just the lower and I don't see much of a difference in the performance.

3. Adjustments. I have a hard time with these things loosening up when I ride. I followed the directions but they seem to want to spin at high speeds when I am on the highway. I am going to try lock tight, but this is minor issue. Has anyone else ran into this issue?

4. They work great to pull the air onto the driver's legs. I found it even improved breaking up the turbulence around the passengers head when I had them facing in. Facing out cut almost all the air off the driver's legs, and reduced some of the air on the passenger, but this is not the way to go if you are trying to completely reduce the passenger's wind issue.

I like these, because they allow me to pull air on the driver in the warm months, and dial them out when it gets cold. I know they have a set for the bottom of the mirrors, I may try to mount the extra pieces I took off on the mirrors. The thing these are lacking is a locking mechanism. Worth the money, they look good, and seem to be made well too.

Installed the Baker Wings last night, they work great. Follow Mattel post above DO NOT TRUST the template. Also one of the screws did not expand correctly, but I was able to get a washer and nut on the back.

For Hot weather they really do help bring wind onto your legs.

I wonder how well that double-sided tape really does in the long run. Sounds to me like a half-ass way to attach something that has to stand up to some serious wind. Anyone got a clue about this?

Found out last week that I can't refinance my house. That's the bad news. The good news is it frees me up to get more serious about a trike of some kind. Stallion is the current leader.

Ride safe!

Has anyone made their own airwings? Those look rather tacky, especially for the $285 price. Heck, I have a take off M/C windshield made of thick plastic, could cut out a couple pieces and stick on with doubled sided tape or velcour.

Installed the Baker mirror wings this today, going for a ride to see how they work. Looked at the 2 piece Bakers for the side opening, did not care for the look. Also checked All American (Tulsa). The website shows some for 2008 for $250. While at Wing Ding, saw some wings on a demo stallion, asked Jeff Vey about them. He said they were All American, but not the same shape as those on website.
