    Default HOW much $$$$

I would be interested in how much coverage you are getting and how much a year you are paying . I am covered as a TRIKE by Progressive for $18,000 on a 1997 Goldwing $500 dedutable and $515 a year.
MHO if you are paying much under $300.00 a year I would recheck on it.
I am in Conn. and everything is higher here.

    John,

I carry full actual replacement value coverage my Harley/CSC, trailer and contents with a $250 deductabie for $405 through State Farm.

Because they have little experience with trikes, my agent carefully used invoices and a file of photos he took to document initial coverage value of $42,000 to underwriters who confirmed coverage to me in writing.

Can't be too cautious. I use only an agent and company I trust and then require them to confirm everything in writing.

Gotta admit that they may be a bit more accomodating because I have not only the trike , but two more bikes, two trucks and two cars, along with my house with them.

As an aside, I carry a large umbrella liability policy as well. That allows me to maintain liability coverage on the at minimum limits and stiil have more liability coverage than most have.

Downer would be that when I lived in CT, State Farm didn't write any coverage in the state. I had to get the house coverage from another company and just never changed the vehicle registrations.

That was sure a long answer to a short question.

    Dave

    One more question :
Do you have rider coverage and is it 12 month? My agent won't write me a 3 MO lay up so I am full,, coverage even in Feb.

well John I will give you a Scottish/Uk perspective. I pay Ł180/$257 per year for my trike insurance.
This insurance cover includes my breakdown assistance in the Uk & Europe. It covers my trailer third party and the Trike up to Ł17000/$24500.
Each year it goes down if I do not make a claim. So far I have 6 years no claim bonus. So next year will hopefully be cheaper.

Saying all this...if you are new to triking then the underwriter from the insurance companies are taking a good look at the RISK of the person asking to be insured

Question: Are you just curious or trying to establish benchmarks? There are so many variables that determine insurance rates that I don't think comparisons of what one is paying vs. what another is paying would be useful, even within the same city.

I just changed from Markel-American to AARP Foremost.
I live in Wisconsin and have a clean driving record.
I'm 66 years old and retired.
Same coverage- with $250 deduct-insured for $33,000-also $3,500 for camper and cargo trailer
    M-A $495.00
    AARP Foremost- $155.00
Needless to say you can see why I switched.

Ok, now tell me how they will not cover claims, cann't be true, hate aarp, etc., as i have heard this many times since I have told others about the coverage.

That does sound very cheap. As long as you don't crash it I guess it is Ok. My Collision coverage alone ($500 ) deductible is $75.00. Is yours full year with passenger ? My comp is $#100 an year , but then with all the graphics maybe that would raise it. I live in a good size city. Never had a claim or accident ( Car or Bike) and I am over 60. there are a lot of Variables but $400.00 between policies is a lot.

Yes I am trying to set a benchmark on what people should expect to pay. Many people come to this site for incite before the trike purchase. Location has a lot to do with the $ amount. ( big city, small town , crime rate) What kind of coverage, how many months, where you live, your age, your driving record , experience and years claim free with that company, courses you take ,Value of the trike or bike, multi Motorcycles discount, passenger insurance, Deductible, collision, comprehensive, yet even after all the variables I still can't believe that one Trike insurance policy or company could be as low as $100.00 and another as high as $1,000.

Wow, Seems like I pay more than anybody. $611.00 year from Progressive for $26,000. with $500. deductable.I live in Cal. Does that make any difference?<br />

This is exactly what I am saying. I would think being that you can ride 300 days a year and me only 280 or so the $$$ would be effected. You are $100. more than me. It is really strange the bigger flux in Premiums.

When I was looking for Insurance on my Stallion I got some crazy numbers for insurance in NC. The base insurance for just liability is capped by law to be only around $165.00. For full coverage on my $32,000 Stallion, I received pricing from $660 to $2,300 per year! I went with Allstate for $660.00. It seems most insurance companies who found out it had a car engine in it said they will not insure it. I am hoping the rate will drop when their are enough on the road to prove how safe they are.

If contemplating a trike purchase and the cost of insurance is a major consideration, I think the best advice is to contact the agent carrying your other insurance. There are simply too many variables, as you noted.

Things I might add to my above post.
In Wisconsin we do have a winter lay up but trike still has coverage.
    Rural area.
    Passenger is covered.

Also before going through AARP, I did go to Foremost direct and it was $365.00 annual.
    Again through AARP Foremost $155.00.

My agent will not consider Any lay up. (During Lay up only Comprehensive and theft is in effect no collision or Liability or Passenger.) They said that people had an accident in Nov. and say Oh I thought lay up was Dec Jan and FEB or have one in Feb and say My lay up is Nov Dec. and Jan. We at one time had Sunny day on ours and that went away too. You could ride on a nice day any Month of the year. Also all bikes must have Pass. and uninsured motorist . At one time I had 6 month Lay Up and only paid $135.00 on my 1980 wing.

John, by lay up, I mean that I don't ride it due to snow and cold, but I do have full coverage all year long if I would want to ride it.
Btw, I use my snowmobile for fun and riding from Dec to April:d

I'm paying about 90.00 Euros monthly for what is called "half kasko" in Austria. There's no deductable, but it doesn't cover anything like parking lot dings, vandalism, cracked windshield or any damage that I may cause myself in an accident. It does cover theft and any damaged caused by hitting wildlife. So my plan is that, if I have an accident -- and it's my fault -- I will immediately seek out any furry, wild creature on the road and NAIL it as I aim for the nearest tree.

Had we gone with "full kasko", we'd be paying about 350.00 Euros monthly and there would be a 3,000.00 Euro deductable.

The next best offer we could find for "full kasko" was 500.00 Euros monthly with a 300.00 Euro deductable.

For many years we were with Bikeline (Markel). When we got The Blue Trike they were about the only ones that would do a VW based 3-wheeler and not call it a modified car. Had the state minimum of $25,000/$50,000 body injury liability, $10,000 property damage. MO mandates $15,000/30,000 uninsured.
We had $500 deductable collision and comprehensive, Roadside assistance with trip interruption and $3,000 accessory. Cost was $578 per year for both the trike and the bike.
Shopped around in the 'net, and ended up going with an agent. Ended up with Progressive. We now have $250,000/$500,000/$100,000 liability.
$50,000/$100,000 uninsured and the same underinsured, still $500 deductable comprehensive and collision, $3000 accessory on the Harley and $11,000 on the trike (we pull the camper with the trike, accessory covers the trailer, anything in it, gear, custom chrome, pinstriping, any thing attached to the trike.) $3000 on the Harley, it's pretty stock. roadside assistance on the HD, roadside assistance + trip interruption on Her Purpleness. Lots more protection than with Bikeline - cost $577 per year.
Really surprised me that we got a lot more and it was a dollar less. We live in a rural area, half way between Joplin, Mo and Bentonville, Ar.

Just got my second Stallion 08 insurance bill: $500.00 this year dropped from $600 last year for full coverage. Multi vehicle discount. It is getting better.
