OP said his wife's spine (I assume; it was spelled spline) hurt.

My wife wasn't really comfortable on my Road King conversion, even with the Tall Boy pillow top.

We ordered a Day Long seat that was built to our particular size/weight specifications. The base price was $605 but we paid extra because we are just slightly (!) overweight.

Custom Motorcycle Seats and Touring Saddles - "Day-Long" Touring Saddles and Motorcycle Seats by Russell Cycle Products

    MUCH more comfortable.

I take offence to "old pharts" I am 56 and ride a GW trike and do not consider myself an "old phart" But I do like a comfortable , dependable ride.I am on my third GW, the first was a 1200, second was a 1500 which I had a head-on crash and totaled out, and now this one which is triked. I love it and yes I have ridden HDs, Kows, Yamahas, Triumps. If you and your lady are uncomfortable that makes taking a ride torture.Dont let what could be some strongarm loylest browbeat you into keeping it. Check them over with an open mind ,including prices, and your lady. That way you both will be happy.Ride safe.

Well as they say, differant strokes for differant folks. All I can add to this is my trip to the rockies last week. Wife and I stayed in Colorado Springs and rode every day for five days straight with a friend and his wife on their Street Glide. We rode a little over 1500 miles in those five days, which included hot 90 degree days, cool (higher elevation), a little rain, and even a little sleet at one point. The Tri Glide was great, rode and performed like a champ! Oh by the way, I'm 65 and my wife is 71 and she thought the Tri Glide rode great and is ready to it again. Love the sound of that Harley V-twin talking to us up and down those beautiful moutains.

Wife says it hurts her spline, I think it runs too hot.

Frocco...no in general you are not making a mistake...but you need a better approach!

Your wife is showing early signs of "mytrikerideharshsplineitis", and it will only get worse. The more she rides the worse it will get. Soon she will have more advanced symptoms including and not limited to irrational behaviour, bitchyness, headaches, and ultimately fridgitity like an Arctic ice flow. Perhaps you have seen some of the early symptoms?

For you, my poor friend, it may not be too late. If you "think it runs too hot" it probably does. Have you noticed a slightly pungent smell when you stop at a traffic light on a warm day? Well, that is the early onset of "friedtesticleosis"...this unfortunately has no early symptoms. All of a sudden you will notice a slight itchy feeling and sweat in the crotch after a long ride..then all of a sudden...the heartbreak of "nowoodosis".

But, since we are fellow Tri-gliders I feel for you. However, this is such a serious threat that you should not even consider returning this hideous machine to your dealer. But, it is not yet too late and you and your wife can still be saved, and I am willing to help you in this effort. As witnessed by this astute forum, I will relieve you and your wife of this terrible threat for $15,000 cash in non-sequential unmarked bills. PM me and we can arrange transfer of owner ship and I will ensure you are no longer at risk of "mytrikerideharshsplineitis" or "nowoodosis".

    I really to care...

I've noticed a lot posts in the Harley section before from GW riders and that's fine; I'm not aware of any forum rules that say riders have to stay in "their own" section.

But it does make me wonder a bit if GW riders constantly monitor the Harley section looking for any slight against their preferred brand so they can spring to the defense. Unless I owned both (like Mike) I cannot imagine a reason I would be reading the Honda trike section.

    Maybe I'm missing something.

Post Re: Am I making a mistake returning my trike?

As a GW owner, I rarely visit the Harley site. But I can say that I'd never try to undermine the Harley or any other motorcycle for that matter, nor would I get defensive if a Harley owner posted a negative comment regarding the Wing. It's just not worth it. That being said and as Ive mentioned in the past, if money wasn't an issue, I'd have a Harley trike next to my GW.

Hey Screwball, If you had to keep pressure on the left handle bar all day long you would know what I'm bitching about. So don't be putting me down for something you don't know about. If they can fix the motor so it doesn't use the oil I will probably keep it since I have so much money in it,if not I will most likely trade it. I will stick with HD too, only because that's what I like.

Default Re: Am I making a mistake returning my trike?

If I had to keep pressure on the left handle bar all day long to make it go straight and it was using oil I sure wouldn't be on a web site complaining. No one here can fix your trike, only a dealer or indy can. I think I'd be on the phone or web with Moco, a lawyer, or a different dealer. As I've said a bunch here and on the other board, if something is wrong, bitch at the dealer. If they blow you off, go to MoCo. There are lemon laws to protect you, bitching on a web site will get you no where. I've had warranty problems with both trikes. The dealer took them in and fixed them promptly and correctly. Ford and Chevy have done the same with cars I've owned. I'm not putting you or anyone else down. If you want to live with a problem, that is your choice. If your dealer is giving you a hand-job and you accept it, again that is you. For me it just gets a little bit old hearing the same complaints with no remedies or action. If your bike pulls in a direction, it is an obvious alignment problem, get it fixed. If you are using oil, something is wrong, get it fixed. I just don't see spending a grand or two for aftermarket products to fix a factory problem. Horn covers turning blue from the heat, 300*+ oil temps are not correct and need fixing..... by the factory or dealer. Accepting "that is normal" and spending a ton of money wouldn't be acceptable to me. If you want to spend a bunch to make your trike faster, quicker, whatever that is your choice. I've done it several times, but never to mask a factory problem.

If I offended you, I'm sorry. Have you fixed your problems?? If not, then I'm not sorry, you choose to live with it.

Since M3 will store his GW in my garage this winter and my Tri Glide will also be in there, I wonder if we will find baby Tri Wings in the spring??

Unless I owned both (like Mike) I cannot imagine a reason I would be reading the Honda trike section.

    Maybe I'm missing something.[/QUOTE]

I visit the Honda site and a few others on triketalk occasionally because I'm interested in trikes. I'm tall and couldn't fit on a GW comfortably if I tried, so I would never consider a GW. But, that forum and the others have interesting triking posts from time to time that I enjoy. I'm choosey about which ones I read. That's just how I do it. Others may not agree.

Needless to say, I would take a beating.
Wife says it hurts her spline, I think it runs too hot.

But I worry I may not be able to handle the GW as I am only 5'6" and 26 1/2 inseam, and 59 years old.
I had a 2012 Tri-Glide and traded it for a 2012 Honda with a Roadsmith kit and am now happy for the first time since buying a trike. The Harley made too much engine noise, ran very hot,did not ride smooth.....Service manager said it would run about $2000.00 + to cool it down and I might not be satisfied with that so I traded it for a Honda and well satisfied. No heat, noise,Dealer issues at all now.....Get rid of it, you won't be sorry.....Although I will agree with another post I read.....If a Harley had a Honda motor and drive train in it I would probably trade back......
