Missing in America project

Today Ruth and I had the privilege of escorting the cremains of 19 veterans to their final resting place in the Sierra Vista, Az. National cemetary. Approx. 150 bikes proceeded to do an escort from Tucson to Sierra Vista for a very touching ceremony. If you have never heard of the MIAP, they are a group dedicated to locating the remains of veterans that have been sitting on shelves in mortuarys for years. Through new means of testing they are able to identify vets remains that have never been claimed. Some were from WWll, and others from Korea, Viet Nam and also the cold war. This is a national group. If there was a group in my area I'd join as well. I'm a current member of the Patriot Guard Riders and soon to also join the Legion Riders.

There is an active MIAP here in Louisville Ky also. It is surprising the number of veterans who have no one to honor them.

As a Patriot Guard Rider, I understand the mission you participated in. That you for your dedication. God bless those who honor our heros.

My wife and I are also PGR members and American Legion riders. In fact we just got home from an ALR meeting.

Many of the WWll vets have now outlived any of the family that they had, so there is no one to claim them.

In fact we just buried, last week, an 88 year old veteran. His wife is 95 and had polio as a child. She is on crutches and took care of him for the last 7 or 8 years. He had Alzheimers and Cancer. They never had any children. She had very little money and the mortuary would not release the body unless it was paid in full. He passed July 31 and was just buried last week. Luckily she was cancelling his car insurance and the woman she talked to, her husband is a veterans advocate here in town. He got it taken care of. He had a nice funeral. She was there and 2 neighbors also and about 30 PGR members in the rain.

These are stories that a lot don't here about.
