    Default Burgman trike question

I'm looking at buying a Burgman Executive with a Trinity Trike Kit installed. I have experience with the Burgman but none with the trike kit. I know it started as Trinity then Yelvington, I'm now reading the trike kits are not made anymore. I'm hoping there are members that can give me information on the Trinity's durability and longevity and if a problem does come up, where would you go for repair? Thanks, Ray

Hey Raymond! Welcome to TrikeTalk! Always happy to have another member onboard.

You are very wise to ask questions before buying the trike when you already know the unit is no longer made. Careful consideration beforehand could save you some headaches later.

Hopefully some folks will chime in soon with some answers.

    Good luck in your quest.

There is a thread or 2 in both the brand specific and other brands sections. You can also do a search for Trinity or Yelvington and find more info.

Bought the wife a used one. Thing you have to watch out for is rust, especially at the welds. It started out as a good design but did not go far enough. You might want to look at, like I am going to, is Motor Trike. They are in Troup, Texas. Fantastic group of people. And they know what they are talking about. And for $5,000, it might be something to look into.https://www.motortrike.com/TrikeSuzu...manBreeze.aspx

I have a Burgman 2010 Trike with a Trinity trike set. Looks good but not very well made. I had a ton of issues with the trike set at first. Had my trike guy take it apart redo the entire back end that was 5 years ago now it is perfect chain drive as well. The one thing that needs to be replaced are the fenders they are steal. Do not hold up will crack. Cost me some money to have the welded and repainted.

After a year and a half they cracked in the same place yet again. I decided to take them off and buy fiberglass fenders same size. Far less expensive more durable lighter weight used rubber washers on the inside bracket.

Trike sets for a scooter are not the best I found out had a few. Unlike a motorcycle trike set these fenders are not in one section like a motorcycle trike set. So they continue to vibrate on the road the move vibration the more likely they are going to crack over time. Especially a steal fender which doesn't give as much. Hopefully this is going to be the last fender replacement as i ride 2000 miles a summer on long rides. If they crack again then I going to sell the bike and get a Honda trike or a Can Am

    Cool

Fender brackets and fenders mounted directly to the axle are the reason for cracking. They cannot take the impacts and vibrations that the wheels experience. If you can find a way to mount them to the motorcycle frame directly, that should solve the problem.

I would strongly advise you to stay away from the Yelvington or Trinity trike kits. I was under contract with Trinity Trikes after they bought out Yelvington and worked at their Largo Florida facility for a year to attempt to help design/revise/improve the original design which had lots of issues. I also was tasked with taking all sales calls and fulfilling the few orders that eventually shipped as well as after sales follow up and I can tell you with certainty, the the majority of the new kits sold had issues.

Richard Yelvington was retained by Trinity and was still in charge of final design and unfortunately was not keen on taking advice from myself and the very competent new project engineer / Solidworks Cad designer, so problems persisted and the company never really got off the ground. There are no spare parts available, so you would be on your own to maintain it.

Coming from Zook with first hand knowledge, that would be all I need to hear to stay as far away from that trike as I could.

    Default Burgman Trike

Yup I have one Trinity and the first two years was a nightmare. Poor quality on the rear had to be taken apart poor quality material. Have a guy who took the rear end off found changed the parts as they were in bad shape. Machined some parts costs me a pretty penny but now it is in tip top shape. Haven't had any issues in three years no problems on the trike set at all and of course the bike is flawless.

Trinity a true trike set maybe a great concept on paper but the company was mismanaged from the top to the bottom. Customer service was poor at best wouldn't call you back, would not stand behind their product. When I bought my bike after a month, I said i have been hosed as this thing is a mess. Then i found a guy who redesigned the entire back of the bike with new steel parts that fit. The inside of the axel was a mess with cheap metal parts that were cracked.

He had the bike for three weeks had the entire back end on the floor, parts everywhere. Put it back together and now wow it is perfect. I would never sell the bike but looking at this Sea to Sky Can Am that one has caught my eye.

Don't buy a bike with a Trinity or Yelvington set on the back waste of money for sure. Then there were the fenders steel cracked every three thousand miles. Had two sets that was it. Now I have fiberglass no problem less weight. Plenty of stress that is the issues on turns steel will crack under stress fiberglass will not from what I have been told. We shall see this is my first summer with fiberglass.

Motor Trike is a true trike set. I did meet the owner several years ago in Columbus for a dealer convention. The design is much better and the company stands behind the product. I would consider this set if you want to trike out your Burgman.

I also had a Danson trike set on the back of my old 2005 Burgman. Dark side tire in the middle don't use a scooter tire. Fender issues as well they cracked because of the weight and the design. Looked good not practical.

Sorry I posted this late rarely get on this site but saw it today at work.
