Default Subaru trikes

I would like to see more info and photos of Subaru trikes! Any one doing them? They seem to intrigue me. Too old to start a project now. Would still like info on one .

Just got me a Subaru EA81 motor to convert my vw trike over to Subi power. Hope to start once it warms up a bit here, don't have a garage or any protection from the weather to start the conversion.

Tweety the trike started out as a 1916cc VW engine with VW 3 speed auto from the 1960 type 3 vehicles. An ea81 was fitted and is in the trike in this video

Trike - YouTube

An adapter was sought and a custom exhaust made.

The auto box zaps 14 hp out of the engine far too much. and to tow with the trike was not pwoerful enough. I supercharged the engine with a SC12 draw thru set up with delorto carbie but has been really uneconomical. great power though. I tried water injection but was a waste of time with such low boost.

So the plan is to fit SPFI and possible blow thru SC12 set up and a new engine next year.
.....Was Tweety not for sale a while back ? I've watched a lot of videos of it in the past and all the work that went into it . Took me by surprise when it went on the market . I guess you just couldn't part with it .

yeh slick Rick, it was for sale during a personal crisis in my life. Once over that, a few weeks, I withdrew it from sale and glad I did. Just dropped it off at a welder to weld up parts of the frame and it was running good. Cant wait to get the SPFI on it though- will then be much more reliable.

I have been using this trike for quite a few years now and enjoy the power train. I used the entire drive train from the donor vehicle and aside from a few glitches, am quite pleased with how it turned out.

I have pulled a Subaru EJ25 and all the wiring and ecu, fuse and replay panels, from a 2004 50K Forester that the car was damaged, but engine & drivetrain in excellent condition, they showed me before engine was pulled.

All engine numbers were noted before engine was pulled.

They started engine, and ran it for a couple of minutes.

Now my question is at 165h.p. and 165 Ft lbs torque, NA, and as light as this trike will be,

I want to keep this short, but with that kind of power, I am thinking that, keeping the front end on the ground will be tough.

I am going to try to put as much weight forward and low as possible.

I would like to use a pancake flat fuel tank to go under the floor as far forward as possible like starting right behind the front wheel, a 8.5 gal. tank, it is approx 3" deep and will be take up the whole floor area.

They are plastic tanks and are fairly light weight an very low profile.

I would also like the battery way up front to.

They do make some powerful and light weight batteries, now a days.

Anything else that can be done to move the weight forward.

I think, Engine will remain a rear engine.

Although i do have a 914 trans that is Completely rebuilt, in a 74' 914 that the Subie 2.5L engine is currently in.

The 914 weighs 1900-Lbs, but a trike would be Much less, also thought maybe a fiberglass dunebuggy for this engine.

Westgl, you might be going the wrong way about this.

your idea of a frotn mounted tank is a little flawed. When the tank empties you'll have your light front end again.

A battery as far forward as possible is a good idea. So is a front mounted radiator. If that fails to keep the front down then I'd resort to lead somewhere.

I originally had the radiator on tweety above the engine but it wasnt efficient. I then widened the brake pedal and placed it in front. Much better this way for your issue of front wheel lift.

Alfa33 1979-1988 had a really small radiator 245mmx520mm. Thats what I used. But recently in Oz that became impossible to get so the next size was Alfa33 1988-1994 which is 80mm higher and mine is in the mail as we speak. two 30mm stainless steel tubes from front to rear and two flexible hoses to suit.

The original location

Extra cooling vents from boats.

Called "Hawsie pipes" they are commonly used to allow anchor ropes to go thru on the decks.

Alfa radiator up front

and finally the heater vents. found in a local hardware store they are common in lounge rooms as floor vents. when closed heat goes towards the ground.
