    Default Best Water Bottle Ever!

Wanted to share this with everyone that's looked far and wide for a water bottle that actually keeps your drinks cold.

The brand name is Contigo and can be found at Costco ($19.99 for two) or on the web. Was recommended by a friend and could not believe how well it works. They claim it will keep liquids cold for 20 hours and they aren't kidding...it really does.

Other great things about this bottle:
    • It doesn't "sweat", so no water running down on the bike or blowing back at you
    • It has a pop-up mouth piece that attaches to an internal straw that you sip from, so no more tipping your head up to get a drink

This is not for hot drinks, only cold. Also, don't put pop into the bottle. It tends to explode like a gyser when you open it up to drink.

Not affiliated with them or Costco, just wanted to share this info because I know people spend lots of money trying to find a water bottle that actually works.

My wife and I have Contigo hot beverage mugs. They keep stuff hot AND cold. Not to mention my wife's bike threw hers out of the holder, it rolled and bounced and never broke! I had to smooth the edge where your mouth goes because of the road rash! It's a little beat up but she refuses to get a shiney new one, this one has "history"!! I'm going to look for the cold cup when I go to Costco next time.

Looking at the contigo web site they must have 30 different types, so a picture or something to narrow it down would be great as I am looking for a good water bottle.

    Skutter,
I'm not so good at posting pictures, so hopefull this works.

The first one is just the water bottle so you can see what it looks like.

The second one shows a "cut-a-way" view so you can see the double wall and the straw that attaches to the spout.

The third one shows a close up of the lid and spout. Pressing the white button, pops the spout up automatically. Just push it down to lock it in place and closed.

Not sure of the exact dimensions, but it doesn't block my view of the fairing mounted Garmin GPS.

Make sure it's not the plastic ones. They won't keep liquids cool very long. You want the metal one that has a double wall. Not sure why it won't keep things hot, but it definitely says only for cold.

Any chance there's a sku number or item number? eBay has them, but pricey! Costco website doesn't show any.

That's another nice feature to this water bottle. The spout that you drink from is covered in a nice soft plastic, so you won't break your teeth if you're drinking and hit a bump.

I can check when I get home, but I doubt I still have the box they came in. Costco does carry them, but not every store. You might have to call around to find one that has them in stock.

I think the issue is the straw in the sump. When I open my coffee mug, I get a little "burp" so I think it has the same issue as if you put soda pop in it. When you open it it would blow at you from the bottom under pressure.

If anyone does decide to buy these water bottles, here's a hint for filling them with liquid and ice.

Do NOT fill the bottle up with ice and then get what water into it that will fit. You'll run out of water long before the ice melts. Fill the bottle maybe 1/4 with ice (I usually put in 6 or 8 ice cubes) and then fill it with water or gatorade, or whatever you'll be drinking. You will run out of the liquid long before those 6 or 8 ice cubes melt.

I only drink water from it and have had no "eruptions" yet. I think the pop that exploded on my friend was caused by the water bottle shaking just like a can of pop would do. As long as the liquid isn't carbonated, it should be fine.

I'd be interested in other's opinions as people try this water bottle. I've recommended it to quite a few people and not one person has been disappointed so far.

Contigo seems to have quality products. We're very happy with the hot cups I mentioned in my earlier post. Our grandson has several different (age appropriate) cups and containers from the bpa free products to the stainless steel ones like the big people have. All have been leak proof and very dependable. Can't wait til I get my cold water cups tomorrow! I will report back!

Those aren't the ones I don't believe, they should be made of stainless steel.

10 years ago I bought a very similar mug at Target. They still have them. I will post a picture of it when I get home.
The lid pops up when you press a red tab and a completely rubber tube pops up as the cap flips back out of the way. It will keep anything cold or hot ALL DAY in 90* temps. We just had a week of 90+ temps here and the iced tea stayed ice tea all during the charity ride.
GoSlo is right about filling with ice - you don't need much. I carry 2 of these on my Trike. One in the handlebar cup holder and one in the little leather saddlebag on the fender.
A little while ago I got worried after I accidentally dropped the mug while riding.

Went back and all that was wrong was the thin plastic coating on the bottom 1" portion of the mug (mug is SS) was scratched up a bit, so I went back to Target and bought all the ones that were on the shelf (4). That's how much I love this cup. A friend of mind says they also have these mugs in pink and light blue for school kids because they are so indistructable.

Just looked at your pics. I'm not sure I like that handle, looks like it might block the forward view a little bit.
The mouth piece on mine is very soft rubber at a 90* angle so the bottle stays completely upright.
The mouthpiece and the lower tube are replaceable.

How many onces is that bottle??

Just looked at the previous pics. Not sure I like that handle - seems it would block the forward view a little. The mouth piece on my mug is very soft rubber and at an almost 90* angle so the mug stays completely upright. Hopefully my picture will be small enough to post on this forum.

My RoadSmith is still in the shop (since 4/13) - can't get body parts from RoadSmith, but that is another story!!

Am currently driving a Honda Shadow Spirit 750. Carry two of these water bottles. from 7 in the morning till 6 PM with PM temp above 90 degrees, and there is still ICE in them.

They are spectacular. See attached photo, and you can see the bottle on the back bottom of the pack.

I only fill it 1/3 with ice, and it is mostly there, even after 6 or 7 hours 90+ degrees!!
