    Hey,

I had the same problem, took the motor out and apart,I found out that one of the lugs that hold the end cover to the motor was cracked off.

had it welded an it broke again.I WILL NOT replace it,I am going to go with the gear drive set up for that kind money,Harley does not sell any parts for the motor,I think it is CRAZY that make you buy the whole motor!

Have you talked to any shops that work on electric motors? It might be repairable or if not, they might be able to match it and sell you a new one for a vastly reduced price.

If the motor is ok & just needs brushes replaced, which is the biggest problem the motor has as it seems. You can get a new set of brushes w/plate, (assy) for $49.95 0n EBay.

On my 11 T/G The first time the motor went south, i pulled it out, clean and reset the brushes, it worked for a while, The second time i brought the motor to an old school shop and he rebuilt it while i waited for 95 dollars cheap at twice the price..
That lasted for about a year.. Road around for a while without a reverse and having to be careful where i parked. Then i finely got tired of crawling under my trike to pull the motor so i had in a mechanical reverse put in.. Now i can park my 30 thousand dollar machine any where i darn well please..

Default Reverse motor repair shops or mechinal reverse?

I realize this is an old thread but I have an old '11 Tri-Glide with a dead reverse motor.

    I tried "Rino 2" web site http://alternatorsandstartersnj.com/

but internet explorer sends this message - could not find. I have the following address and will try it.

    Middlesex Armature Service.

    Middlesex N.J.

    732-634-3779.

Has anyone else had any recent experiences with dead reverse motors?

Is there an update on repair shops? Mechanical reverse who sells / installs them?

For now I will watch where I park. Sorry for all the question and thanks in advance. DJ

Middlesex is where i had mine rebuilt...It worked for a little over a year, After that i bit the bullet and had my dealer put in a Motor-Trike Mechanical reverse... I Should have did that the first time...

    Default Reverse Motor Repair

Check the website for Performance Alternator and Starter in Canton OH.

    http://www.performancestarter.com/

Note their claim of "Lifetime Warranty" at the top of the page. And, no, I have no affiliation with them!!! Their video is very interesting.

My reverse motor died it's first death at 24K and out it came! Motor Trike Mechanical Reverse in its place. Very easy to remove the factory electrical motor. Pop the 50-amp breaker; disconnect the two wires and tape them off and secure to the frame; remove two bolts from the starter and it's out!

It's laying on the bench in the garage and may get rebuilt (or scrapped) someday, but I'm very happy to have mechanical reverse now.

I just left it in, I didn't feel like crawling under the Trike and unbolting the motor and zip tying the wires again.

Thats an interesting question... When i first had trouble with my reverse motor, I went to 3 or 4 rebuilders...They all said bring it in , Once they seen it they all said no can do.
Then i called Middlesex, And asked if he could do it.. He said look i'm busy and i can't wast time over the phone' If you want it fixed bring it in... Man after my own hart' I used to tell my costumers the same thing... Brought it in and they rebuilt it while i waited...

    Default Will They Rebuild It?

I talked to these guys on the phone....

....Performance Alternator and Starter will rebuilt the H-D Reverse Motor, as demonstrated in their video, for $259.00.

A little stiff on the price, but with a lifetime warranty, better than getting one from the factory.

It is an ongoing problem & if some know where it can be rebuilt, it is still pertinent to Trike riders. Dont read it if it is not for you.
