I was in the same delimma, had motor trike about 20 mins away, opted for the Road Smith who was 2 hours away. At the time, wasn't satisfied with the drive train, had to drop the drive shaft for lube maintenance, and for me that was a shop visit, maybe that has improved, don't know.

    Hello,

First, thanks for the opportunity to earn your business. We just replied in another post, but according to your zip code in Barnum, IA, there is a Roadsmith dealer not to far away from you in Storm Lake, IA. They have been a top 10 Roadsmith dealer since 2011 and have developed a very good reputation. I invite you to check them out before you make the big decision, talk to Larry or Jeff

Hey Bill, depending on how new your kit is, the drive shaft system is sealed on a Roadsmith.

Maybe I didn't make my post very clear, the MotorTrike drive had to be dropped for yearly maintenance , whereas the RS did not, therefore my choice was the 2012 Road Smith. Still good for many happy miles.

    Hi RS,
Just recently purchased a 2015 GL1800 w/RS conversion. I noticed my speedometer & odometer are off by 10%. Is this typical with the size of wheels used by RS, can it be calibrated, or do I need to purchase a device that will correct the problem? Also, I purchased the trike from Honda of Russellville Arkansas, and being in the Houston, TX area, it's not convenient for me to return it to Ark for service.

    Hi Roger,

Thanks for riding Roadsmith! We hope you are pleased with the trike thus far...

To answer your question, all Roadsmith kits come standard with a 205/65-16 series tire w/a 16x7" rim. Using that overall tire diameter combined with the 2.93:1 gear ratio basically brings the trike back to the same gear ratio the original motorcycle was, therefore not effecting the speedometer. Honda of Russellville often uses bigger rims and tires on their trikes, which look really good, but will throw your speedo off a little bit. Luckily there are fairly easy/cheap fixes such as a Speedo Healer that will correct the problem. The one from HealTech seems to be the best in our experience.

If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to let us know, thanks again for riding Roadsmith

RS comes through again with good answers. I have several friends that use Speedo Healer. I have the size tires that trikeshop uses on RS conversions, my speedo is the very same as before the conversion.

Just had my Wing converted this last week & am still getting used to everything. Was there any type of "owner's manual" I should have received ?
As a new owner, I still don't even know all the questions I should be asking . . .

Not sure if there is such a thing. I am the second owner of this trike, but I did go online and down load what there was on the kit. The bike came with the original owners manual.

Hi Ron, I think we already answered this on an email, but you shouldn’t need to take the seat off in order to remove the sidecover. It’s held on by 3 grommets and it’s usually easier to pull from the bottom first and then it kind of all pops out from there. When re-installing, it's best angle the top edge of the side cover under the edge of the seat and then line up the holes from there.

Clicking the link, I fail to find an owners manual for 2011. My RS trike was a finish build out December 2011, but I picked it up January 2012, what am I missing here?

    Default Next question . . .

Got the hardcopy ! Really appreciate it.

Now I've got a running light out on the right rear. How do I get to it to change the bulb?

You'll have to remove the tail light assembly, which luckily isn't too difficult.

    1. Locate and remove the (3) 8mm nuts behind the light assembly located in the fender well area.
    2. The whole assembly should come right out. Depending on the year, you have one of two different tail light assembly packages:

    • Amber top/red bottom: This is from model year 2001-2005 GL1800s. Both the upper and lower bulb are the same, p/n: 34906-MBB-611 (clear)
    • Clear top/red bottom: This is from model year 2006-2010 GL1800s. The upper and lower bulb are different. p/n: 34906-MBB-611(clear) and p/n 33303-SAA-003 (amber)

Hopefully this helps, but feel free to let us know if you have any other questions!

    Default Light assembly

Thanks ! I really appreciate the quick response.
I didn't notice all 3 nuts the first time I crawled under the fender - really helps to know what I'm looking for.
