    Default Hand mike for CB

Does anyone know if a handheld microphone can be used with the infotainment center on the Triglide....In the heat of the Texas summer I like to wear a shorty helmet and still have access to the CB.....I don't care for the Boom audio headset and Microphone....just looking for some options. Thanks

Found this but, you better call to make sure it will work since your's is a 2014!
There are headsets for shortie helmets also.
I have a helmetless head set that I can wear a shortie with:

The hand held mic does not work in the 14's. Some have said there is a way around it by keying the mic and PTT switch at the same time?

I use this head set use it with half helmet or no helmet.

Yes, go to the HD web site under parts / radio & comm. They sell the hand mike.

You don't have to pay the ridiculous Harley price for a hank mike. I bought mine for my 07 Ultra from J&M. Good quality and less money.

FYI...........it will not fit or work on a TriGlide. That's why HD charges what they do.

I have a 2014 Triglide and the hand mike DOES work, but you have to hold the switch down AND the PTT switch at the same time. TriGlide owners have to purchase the CB unit and the PTT switch assembly. Thanks a $#@% lot Harley!!!

I'm like you, I don't want anything covering my ears. A friend of mine showed me an alternative. Take the headset that Harley gives you and cut off the speakers, then attach a clip onto the mike and clip it to your jacket, so the mike is in front of your mouth, then all you have to do is push the PTT switch - works like a miracle.

Have no idea if this would work or not. Could you use an elastic band to keep the mic button keyed and then just have to use the PTT switch to get it to work? I agree with you it really sucks the hand held can not be used with out all the extra. Maybe they will come out with another mic if enough people complain.

I thought about that too, but the rubber bands would interfere with the bracket on the back of the mike. Besides you still have to hold the mike with one hand and push the PTT switch at the same time. I don't know how big your hands are, but mine will not reach the PTT switch without releasing most of the throttle grip. Very dangerous practice.

In this day of wireless everything, is there any company out there that makes a wireless mike like the scala rider wireless headsets to use the 2014 CB PTT function?

I hate anything over my ears too and using the hand mic and using the PTT switch at the same time is not very safe. What I did was cut the speakers off the headset that came with the bike and attach a clip to the mic. Then just clip the mic to your jacket and use the PTT switch. Works for me.....unless all I'm wearing is a t-shirt, then it's hard to clip it anywhere.

There are throat mics out there, but haven't tried one. A friend said the one he has works OK.

GAryD.... I like that idea because we actually have an extra headset/mic. Do you have a picture of how you did this? did you just use electrical tape on the wires you cut?

Gave me an idea. Have a couple 3 extra hand mics. Thinking about pulling one of 'em apart and soldering the contacts, that are effected when you key the mic, together. That would be better than putting a rubber band or elastic to compress it.

Ohhhh, this ain't for me. Have a friend that has a '14 who is having this issue. The bigger issue is he's thinking very seriously about buying a '17 Limited and don't know about that one.

I was going to offer the same advice, pull the mic apart. You might find the switches have extra contacts too where one switch can switch both circuits.

Sena has a radio interface that will work with the bluetooth headsets and can be used with different types of two way radios.

I have a Bell Pit Boss Half Helmet. On the side ear covers it has built-in pockets that I inserted the HD Headset ear piece. ( See Pic ) I don't feel any pressure from the speakers at all.

The Mic is mounted to the side of the helmet, I just move it down in front of my face. If I'm not using it, I'll flip it up on the helmet. A cord attaches to it and plugs into the acc jack on the tank. I use the PTT Switch on the handlebar for the CB.

Thats cool but what about your hand held mic ? How do you operate it ? Have you by passed the use of the mic and PTT buttons ?

    Texan,
with this set-up you don't have an in line PTT button. The cable connects to the Acc jack on the tank and you use the PTT button on the handlebar. This is the HD CB setup. If you are using a Handheld CB mounted with a Handlebar mount, you can buy an in-line PTT cable to connect to the CB and your headset. The Headset I have is the standard HD set-up. Hope that answers your question.

??? Using a Harley CB system mounted in the radio with the plug in on the console. TRY TO USE a hand held Harley microphone. Nothing to do with a hand held CB. On '14 and newer Harleys you have to push the talk button on the hand held microphone, not hand held CB, and the PTT button to talk.

I'm just asking has anybody figured out an alternative. 8~\o

Sully, I don't want to wear that winter side cover in the summer. That's why I have a half helmet and not a 3/4 or full helmet. Winter time it would be OK.
