    Default passenger buffeting.

We have a 2012 gold wing roadsmith trike with factory windshield.

I have ordered the baker air wings, hand wings, and the leg wings. I get a lot of wind myself but my wife is taking a beating, for real. She gets a lot of buffeting. If some of you have done this and it helped please post. Did it resolve the wind for your passenger?
If it helped but did not cure the problem what did you do to make it work?

    Thank you in advance.

The trike I bought had all of the Baker Wings on it but my wife got a lot of buffeting. I bought the Optic Armor +2 windshield which helps. A lot of people go with the +4 windshield. The +2 is two inches taller and a little wider and still adjustable up and down. The +4 is four inches taller and I believe two inches wider plus a little thicker. Since it is thicker you loose the ability to adjust it up and down. There are other brands and different shapes meaning curved differently but I wanted the adjustability of the +2 for riding solo and the Optic Armor has good ratings so that is what I bought. You will like your Baker Air Wings.

I have a friend who owns a Roadsmith also. I don't think the kit has much to do with buffeting, however he bought one of those shields that goes behind the passenger seat and his wife loves it says the buffeting is almost completely gone.

I'll be subscribing to this thread. Maybe it's just a matter of getting that huge wind pusher, f4+4, or whatever. The clockwerks shield with curve at the top. Seems the aerodynamics of that curve at the top to push the up and over would work, but I'm not buying one to find out.

Not sure that is the reason the +4 is non-adjustable I believe flex of the shield if raised more, at speed, is the reason it was deemed non-adjustable.
I have a +4 and get flex if following a semi, on the I-state at speed!

These "Rear Air Foils" were marketed by Kury, for a short time. As far as I know, they are no longer available
I purchased one when they 1st came out. Made no difference for my wife at all
Reviews from others seemed to indicate if the passenger was short, there was some help. My wife is 5'8" and again this piece of plastic that cost $120 made no difference at all.
Also, after install, my cover no longer fit

Also, those rear fenders, hanging out in the wind, does cause some back draft on the passenger! Baker Trike Wings helped reduce this for me!

Since my rotator surgery I've been riding on the back of my buddy's gold wing. Yea, I'm a bitch!. The first time I was wearing my 1/2 helmet. I got beat to death. My head is way above the top on the windshield right in the wind stream. The next week I wore my full face modular with visor. Boy what a difference. them wings ride smooth and quiet. Too smooth and quiet for me. Don't know how the ladies ride above the windshield like that. Guess I'm spoiled. I get my release in 3 weeks.

F4+4 here, wife has never complained and along with the Baker Wings I can get that wind moved everywhere / Hand wings, Trike wings, and upper and lower body wings... that will do it.....

Yep, if Your Wife doesn't mind a modular or full coverage helmet, it's a "cheaper fix".....some open face with a rigid flip shield will work also.....

Prior to purchasing our trike, we had a 2006 GL1800. First ride down the road, my wifes helmet was blowing up and she looked like a bobble-head in the mirrors. She doesn't complain but admitted that buffeting was an issue. First, we got her a new helmet (old one was a dozen years old... I know I know). Next we got some Baker hand wings and a KuryAkyn Airmaster Rear Airfoil. Problem TOTALLY solved.

We traded the 2006 for a 97 GL1500 RS trike and it came with a Tulsa Tall windshield. NO buffeting and ZERO air behind that monstrosity! Took off that thing (I don't like looking through shield) and put on a Windbender. There is little or no buffeting with that shield... a little more air but no buffeting for me or the passenger. I still have the hand shields but they are not on the 1500 as they don't seem to make much difference other than directing air at us on hot days.

Not really sure why the buffeting issue doesn't translate from the 1800 to the 1500... the bikes are similar but the 1500 just doesn't share the buffeting the 1800 has for the passenger. Perhaps the windshield angle is different of something?

Got the air wings, hand wings and leg wings installed. My passenger reported that it was much much better but still had some slight buffeting.
I do not like tall windshields so I may be trying the F4 +2 windshield in the future.

The issue with the 1800s is the design of the trunk area. And when you add the back end of a trike underneath it with you get severe turbulence. The design creates a backdraft that creates heavy turbulence on the back of the passenger. It seems like the taller the passenger the higher degree of complaints of turbulence. The thing I would like to see if there is a trike design out there that has less degree of turbulence because of its rear end design.

On most trikes I see, the passengers head is well above the head of the driver so nothing is breaking the wind for the passengers head, they're getting the full blast of 60 mph air, too far behind the windshield for it to be of help.

I have been fond of the recurve windshields but I can not find one that fits a GL1800.

Yes the wife sits way up there for sure.

I love Goldwings and have owned many of them, including 2 trikes but I have to say the Goldwing stock windshield is close to useless. It it small, thin, wobbles around and does not protect. I've tried many different makes but do like this F4+4 not only because it is bigger, but because it is thicker also. It certainly is an improvement from the stock item and better than most replacement shields. IMHO

Last Sunday it was beautiful here in Texas so my wife and I went on a 330 mile ride.
The wind started blowing in the afternoon and she started complaining which is unusual for her on the trike.
I started adjusting the Bakers under the mirrors and finally the lowers until I got the wind off her.
I believe in the Bakers. Lots of adjustments available and when you find the sweet spot they work!

</div>Well, you didn't seem to notice my suggestion regarding the KuryAkyn Air thing but FireCreek makes a windshield for the 1800 with adjustable height and a curved top. We use one on my 1500 and I highly endorse it. I want to look over my shield and the FireCreek is a good solution to buffeting and shield height.

actually I did check them out. At the moment I am only checking things out due to Thanksgiving and Christmas. Hopping maybe momma will get a new shield for Christmas.
I do like the windbender though.

My wife rides with no helmet and long hair blowin' in the wind. Loves it.

I'm guessing those tour packs on the back are the cause of the problem. My wife does not complain. We don't have one.
