    Default Headlights

Does anyone know where the resistor is that cuts the voltage to the headlight in daytime running mode? I'm trying to install a set of HID's and there isn't enough voltage there to trigger them to turn on without the headlights on. Thx Rick

Rick without the electrical diagram that we can not get from TBMS I would suggest plan be. Get with someone that know wiring and redue the wiring to work for you. With the use of relays you should be able to get what you need done. If you use the low voltage feed as a trigger and then wire the lights to a standard voltage feed you should be good to go. Also in the front there is a relay in the wiring just behind the lights I believe MIGHT be involved in what you are trying to accomplish. Without actually getting in there to do what you are trying to do thats the best help I can give.

Thx. I have the low beam in, but can't get it to trigger. I was going to check the voltage and see how much is there with the running light. The instructions say it will work with 9 volts, I need to see if I have at least that. If I do, there is a problem with the ballast. I will check the relay to see if that has 12 volts all the time and it only picks up when you turn on the headlights. It's easy to see everything, but my short arms aren't long enough to reach everything. I just got back from a 200 mile breakfast ride, so I'll let it cool down and then work on it later today or tomorrow. I'll let you know what I find. I sure wish we had a manual for this thing. It would make life a lot easier. It would be an easy fix if I just knew where the resistor was and I could remove it. Thx Rick

I did find a loose connector at the headlight plug. When you plugged it in, it would push the pin out and not make contact. Rick

Terry....Inquiring minds want to know. Did you get your headlights working? I found out what my problem was. The running light didn't have enough voltage to trigger the HID's and the cheap set I had wouldn't work. I returned them. I got a set from DDM Tuning and they have a cable that hooks to the battery to eliminate the low voltage. It operates with a relay to put the full 12 volts to the light. They have a lifetime warranty and it seems like quality stuff. A lot of guys on the Goldwing Form use their lights. I hope to get them in this weekend. If I do, I'll post some pictures of the old and new lights. Rick

Let me help make it a little easier for you. Like I said in posting #3. Relays will make it all work great. You can pick up the 12 volts off of one of the posts that are down by the air filter behind the power distribution box. You will see 2 posts they are hot battery. Wire your high side of the relay to one of them and use the headlight feed for the trigger.

The harness that came with the light kit has the relay built into it. You hook two wires to the battery and the rest just plugs into the existing wiring. This is the kit I ordered with the HID harness. I got the 55 watt one with 5000K lamps.

I'll have to look for the posts you are talking about. It would be easier picking up the 12 volts there than running the wires back to the battery. The harness is long enough if I had to though.

    Default HID lights

One problem you may encounter is, the hid bulb may be too large to go through the hole where the OEM bulb goes. I ran into this when trying to replace the headlight bulbs with led bulbs. There is a hole in the housing just large enough for the OEM bulb. The led bulbs were too large.

The HID H9"s are pretty close to the same size. They go in with no problem. Even the tabs are the same.

    Rocket,
Yes I did get the lights working fine. The trouble was with the wireing in the turn/high low beam switch. Thanks to the wireing diagram it was figured out.
The bad news for me my mechnic is moving to missouri to take over the store there for motor trike /can am.

Got the HID's in and they look great. Much brighter than to old ones. Had to do some creative wiring because the 8.5 volts with the running light wouldn't pick up the relay. I called Tyco and they recommended a couple of different relays that I tried, but they wouldn't work. I gave up and just wired in to 12 volts when the key is on. Just like Gorilla recommended. It was pretty easy with the wire harness I got from DDM. I tried taking some pictures, but they didn't work. I'll try again and if they work, I'll post the difference. Thx Rick

I did figure out the relay up front is only for the brights. I tried to get the juice from the plug up there, but the feed switches depending on what lights you have on. Thx Rick

Here's the difference in the lights. The first picture is with the OEM halogen light. The second is with the HID's I installed. The third is with everything I have up front on. I do light up the road. None of the pictures have the high beam on as with that on, the HID washed everything else out. Rick

    Default Awesome rick!!!!

WOW....Love the change over to those h9s! Please excuse my questions, if you have already answered, I am justified

I am an "Senior" biker, rode hard and put up wet WAY too many times....lol

Regarding your h9s.....Lots of lights are at the top of my, "BE SEEN TO BE SAFER" list...I fully intend to "steal" your idea and clone my bike's front end exactly as you have done....soooooo

1- Are all those lights h9s ?...I intend on changing ALL of mine to h9s
2- Where and how are the lights mounted near the location of the side mirrors ?
3- If I am understanding, correctly, the website where you purchased them... I would need three kits ?
4- Each kit has EVERYTHING I would need to accomplish this change out ?
5- No upgrade to the alternator or voltage reg? (I have strip leds around the the entire undercarriage edge, about a dozen framing the front wheel and a few above my accelerator and brake pedals) these were on the trike when I bought it.

Finally, I intend on changing all my rear lights to LEDS also....

Thanks for your time and all others are welcome to share their opinions

    Ron
