Got tired of Flintstone'ing backwards on downhill parking spaces..
Had my dealer install a Moto Trike mechanical reverse the other day on my T/G,
Should have done that years ago instead of wasting time and energy messing with the electric reverse motor!! Now I can park anywhere without worrying about backing up..

1700 Hundred with tax and labor... Was going to do it myself, Not a that hard to do, If I was a little younger. The part was 14 hundred, So for 3 hundred more i wasn't going to do it. And anyway' while they were doing it i was at my club with a Biologist tracking a radio collared bear for 4-1/2 hours, That was a lot more fun than working on a Trike..

I tracked a bear once .... bow hunting as a teenager in Maine ... my girlfriends father conned me into going (I think he wanted to leave me in the woods) ...
9 tracked the bear for about 35 minutes ... and caught up to him ... when he heard me he turned ... stood up and growled ... I shot him in the shoulder with an arrow ... just p***ed him off ... he charged at me ... I froze and heard three gun shots, the bear fell dead ... turns out a ranger was "tracking" me to check my license ... saw me hit the bear and freeze ... his words "I didn't want to do the paperwork if the bear got you ... so I took him down", he then read me the riot act about not having a backup fire arm ... I thanked him, went back to camp, changed my shorts, got the jeep and returned to get my bear ... Last time I went hunting for bear.

We weren't out to shoot the bear, Just to tranquillize it 'change the collar, Do blood work and send it on its way...
Oh and by the way, I don't mind anyone side tracking any of my post's. I don't stand on formality's.... Lifes too short for any of that...

I don't hunt anymore .. went on a divisional hunting trip long ago in the Navy ... one of my buds didn't come back to camp that evening ... we notified the rangers, they found him the next day shot in the head .. between that and the bear almost getting me I figured I'd better not try for the third strike.

Just about what it did sometimes before;;; ''Nothing''..
There's a little leaver on the right side of the trans.
Trans in neutral clutch in'' lever pushed forward, ease off the clutch, and away you go backwards.

When I did my conversion, I never for one second considered electrical. Why add a electric motor when you have a big old motorcycle engine that can do the job without the added electrical headaches? Mechanical is definitely the way to go. You can regulate your speed and there is no hill to steep to climb. If your trike can go up the hill forward, it can do it in reverse when you have mechanical.

I also went with MotorTrike's mechanical reverse. MotorTrike's mechanical reverse will protect your tranny by cut off the engine if you forget to have the bike in neutral while shifting into reverse. I did consider the Baker reverse. I like the fact that you just press a solenoid switch located on the handlebars, then shift into first gear and shift down again into reverse. The labor cost was higher since you need to pull the gears set out of the tranny case.

I have only used it twice to try it out...If it ever goes out I will do the same...what is the difference in Motor Trike and Champion ???

I my case' My dealer prefers Motor Trike' Don't know why, But that's good enough for me..

I know it is completely different, but I remember when growing up in Pittsburgh PA, the Pittsburgh Police motorcycle officers rode Harleys, and some had the Servi-car style trikes. The first time I saw one, the officer hopped on it in a diagonal, downhill parking spot, and I watched in amazement as he threw it into reverse and backed out and uphill. This one had a suicide shifter and mechanical reverse. Not sure if they were all that way, but it was a thing of beauty to watch. That stuck with me, and I am counting up my shekels to install mechanical reverse and put the electric motor on eBay...

I'm curious Fuzzywuzhe, (I've never hunted bear) how do you tie on to a bear to drag it out? I'm guessing you can't drag it by its head. How much did that thing weigh?

I can answer that, At least with the black Bear I've hunted on my property, The last one we harvested came in at 350 Undressed, I tied a rope around the neck and dragged it to a lumber trail, A limp Bear is slick as goose sh*t dragging though the woods.. Then i put it in my Rhino... It is a 3 man job though..
