Default Target Tune installation pics & info for Dynojet Power Vision

Here is some useful information for those looking to install the new Target Tune kit on their Dynojet Power Vision equipped bike. Target Tune allows for full time closed loop fuel corrections over the entire calibration (not just the cruise range & light load areas like stock) by incorporating Bosch wideband O2 sensors into the Delphi ECM along with key changes to the calibration. TT allows users to target the AFR's of their choice without the limitations of the factory O2 sensors which can only sample within a limited range.

    http://www.fuelmotousa.com/series-199126
    Key Features:
Allows the factory ECM to interpret and use wideband O2 sensor signals*
User defined AFR/Lambda targets over a broad range
Target fuel table from PV calibration is achieved in real time
Retains OEM closed loop, adaptive fuel control strategy
Learns and uses VE table corrections as you ride
Target Tune enhanced Auto Tune app on PV device
Does NOT interfere with dealer diagnostic / service tools
Direct plug in OEM style connectors connect to factory O2 harness
Model specific applications for Harley Davidson closed loop models
Available as upgrade kit without O2 sensors for owners of Auto Tune Pro
Fits 2006 and newer Harley Davidson motorcycles**

The first thing to note is that Target Tune equipped bikes require a Target Tune-enabled calibration, to request a new TT-enabled map you can email Fuel Moto at targettune@fuelmotousa.comor if you purchased your unit elsewhere you can request your map from targettune@dynojet.com.

For a new map we will need the year/model of your bike as well as all of the modifications you have made, or if you currently have have a map you would like converted to be TT-enabled you can email that and it will be converted.

*IMPORTANT* Target Tune requires your Power Vision be updated to the latest Firmware, (2.0.19-1506 or later) and Tune Database (0.0.9.33 or later), and the latest WinPv softare must be installed (2.0.8.1500 or later).

If you have earlier version of either of these items Target Tune will not work, if you open a Target Tune enabled map in earlier software it will disable the Target Tune settings, so... just make sure everything is updated before you get started

To get started make sure all the updates are current using the PV update client, load your Target Tune-enabled map and flash your ECM. Make sure you reset learned fuel trims when prompted. The bike in this example is a 2015 Street Glide however the following basics apply to all models. There are specific instructions & diagrams for each model in the Target Tune manual.

Install front & rear wideband O2 sensors. *Note* Bosch wideband O2 sensors are 18mm and will require the appropriate bung, many models including the 2010-newer FLH uses a 12mm sensor. These applications require an exhaust with 18mm bungs to accept the new sensors, the other alternative is to weld in the bungs in the appropriate location (weld in bungs are included with all TT kits)

wire in the O2 sensor leads to the Target Tune wideband controller, note each wire is color coded and is pre-soldered. A good tip is to use a paperclip to pierce the membrane before you push the wire in.

unplug the factory O2 sensors and plug in sensor harness from the Target Tune box.

If you have exhaust with both 18mm & 12mm sensor bungs you can leave the factory sensors installed, however you can also remove them and plug the bung. If you need a plug it is 12mm X 1.25 thread.

Unplug your Power Vision from the dataport and plug in the included Y-splitter, you will now have the ability to plug in your Power Vision and Target Tune at the same time.

You will run the Y-splitter under the seat and you can tuck the wires in by the ECM

Mount Target Tune on top of ECM, you can now plug in wideband O2 sensors to the Target Tune box

The Target Tune hardware is now installed.

We recommend starting the bike and making sure the O2's are reading thru the ECM with your Power Vision. There are new gauge channels for use with Target Tune for allow you to monitor live AFR/Lambda directly off the ECM's databus. To configure these gauges you will go to the Vehicle channel list and select WBO2 Front & Rear AFR or Lambda as shown below (engine not running in this example) *IMPORTANT* because Target Tune reads the wideband O2 sensors directly thru the ECM it does not require a CAN to Power Vision connection. Target Tune does not require a CAN cable or CAN termination plug like the Dynojet AT-110/120 kits.

There is also a new Auto Tune mode on the Power Vision called Target Tune Auto Tune (TT-AT) which is similar to AT-Pro, however TT-AT is enhanced to Target Tune use, it uses the actual AFR targets in your calibration rather than setting the AF table to 13.0 like AT-Pro. *IMPORTANT* you cannot use the AT-Basic or AT-Pro applications with a Target Tune equipped bike.

*ALSO NOTE* your Power Vision unit does not need to be installed on the bike when running Target Tune.

The only time it needs to be on the bike is when using the Target Tune-Auto tune application, or if you want to display or log data.

I've been considering the Non basic autotune option (can't remember what it's called "Pro" I think). Is this an upgrade to that?

My plan was to get a new head pipe with both bungs already present. Will this have both wide and narrow band O2 sensors installed? If I'm not mistaken, Auto Tune Pro does.

Thanks for the great info .. nice to have you guys around to answer questions and share your knowledge/experience.

Fuzzy, you are talking about the Auto Tune module that allows the Auto Tune process to utilize the Wide Band sensors that come with the Auto Tune module. If I am not mistaken and the way I interpret this TT system, you only need to purchase this module and connect it to your PV and it provides the ability to run closed loop with the Wide Band sensors all the time. I have the PV/Auto Tune system on my Trike (like it a lot) am only kinda thinking about going this route.

I would call and talk to Bryan or Jamie and they will advise exactly what you would need to go to the TT system.

On my Trike, when I go into the Pro Auto Tune process it turns off the narrow band sensors, sets the AFR to a constant 13.0:1 and tunes from there. After you exit and save the tune, it turns off the Wide Bands and turns the narrow band sensors back on.

This TT system eliminates the OEM narrow bands all together.

My Trike is running so good right now that I am on the fence with this new process even though I think it is the way to go.

The Auto industries have been using this system for quite some time know, so it is not something invented by DynoJet.

They have just figured out a way to use it with the H-D ECM.

Good luck with whatever you do, just remember, if it ain't broke don't fix it - i.e. if you are satisfied the way your Trike is running you might want to think hard (like me) before you jump!!

I am really happy with the way the trike is running ...

but I am intrigued by the auto tune pro ...

I'll have to give it some more thought ...

this would be winter project anyway ... yikes ... that's coming quickly too.

Auto tune pro uses the PV, pro module and wide band sensors. Target tune uses the PV, TT module and wideband sensors. If you already the the Auto tune pro module all you need to purchase is the kit containing the TT module to ulilize Target tune. You would remove the auto tune pro module and install the target tune module. If you only have the PV basic, you would have to purchase the kit containing the Target Tune module and the wideband sensors.

My plan was to get a new head pipe with both bungs already present. Will this have both wide and narrow band O2 sensors installed? If I'm not mistaken, Auto Tune Pro does.

Thanks for the great info .. nice to have you guys around to answer questions and share your knowledge/experience.
There is quite a bit of different between the Auto Tune Pro and Target Tune. Essentially Target Tune does everything Auto Tune Pro does and much more. The biggest benefit is that TT allows you to run closed loop with the included Bosch wideband O2 sensors which TT incorporates directly into the ECM, and unlike the factory O2 sensors which are only accurate at/near stoich 14.6 AF (+/- .3) Target Tune gives you much more flexibility over your AF targets 11.0-17.0 AF.

With Auto Tune Pro (AT-110/120) you use the AT-Pro application on the PV device to populate VE corrections in open loop, when completed it then returns to closed loop (if applicable) in most cases you would re-install the factory O2 sensors for closed loop (if you do not have a pipe with dual bungs). With Target Tune you can also use the new TT-AT application on the PV to populate VE corrections however when you are out of AT mode it runs full time closed loop to these same targets off the same widebands offering short term and long term (stored) fuel corrections.

Wow ... TT sounds real interesting ... This might be my winter project. I like the idea of just one set of O2 sensors and the increased flexibility of the closed loop on wide band.

Maybe a dumb question, but will you still have the ability to store multiple tunes? For example a performance tune and an economy tune?

Fuzzy, give it a try, you will not be sorry!! Love mine and has somehow increased my fuel mileage by 1 - 2 mpg. The wife and I took a ride over the mountain here in Central Oregon (not freeway or level!!) and two-up my fuel mileage was 37.7 mpg, and as you can see, my build is far from the 103" OEM motor.

Also, when I sent in the map I was running for Fuel Moto to program so it would run with the TT, I ask Jamie to look over the map for anything he thought would benefit the running of this map and he increased my AFR in several areas. That is why I was surprised to see the increase in fuel mileage. I suspect an increase in efficiency is the culprit!!!

With the Target Tune everything will be the same as far as saving tunes. The real difference is when you try to get another map to start tuning someone will have to convert the tune for the TT system.
That being said, you can do all the mods to the AFR you want to do to lean it out some, while using one tune for your set-up. Then do a few tune runs to let things be adjusted then saved just like before.
If you have a good tune that you are running now, & everything is correct, the TT will give your ECM the ability to tune correctly all across the AFR settings by reading the wide band O2's. This is limited with the narrow band O2's. This lets the ECM stay in closed loop full time.
But you will see basically the same menus except the TT is added option for tuning.

But I'd still need to change the headpipe to allow the larger bungs right?

Or have the larger bungs welded in on your old header. The big kit comes with the 18mm bungs, & wide band O2's so you can have them changed.

Default Taget Tune on a Freewheeler

Well after buying all my new parts for Christmas, I just installed my RCXhaust Power Max headers and I already had RC Componts 4" slip ons I had the Power vision and added the Target Tune. BTW Jamie from Fuelmoto has helped me all the way. I took it out today and I always here about "seat of the pants" This thing is great. I road it for about an hour or two and so far it seams like a new motorcycle. Of course my local HD dealer says the Power Vision is a POC and I should do Harley Dyno.....So far I do not see the need.

I give this Target Tune module 2 thumbs up. I've had mine installed for a while, but I didn't know for much of that time one color wire to the box was not connected right so it didn't run right. A super long story later, after I discovered the loose wire and fixed, then Target tuned; my trike is SO fun to ride now. I was getting 18 mpg, and now 28. Lots of power, great throttle response, and Jaime walked me through it. I have a 120ST, V&H headers, and nothing stock. Stupid mechanic! (me!). One of the most noticeable upgrades I've done. Definitely do this instead of a dyno, like I didn't do.

I've been installing Power Vision Tuners for 3 years now. Every bike I mod gets one.

I have only used the target tuner on 2006 and earlier Harleys that don't come equipped with oxygen sensors.

Great being able to drive and tune and this can be accomplished with stock oxygen sensors.

FuelMoto is my only source for the Power Vision Tuner. Jamie's knowledge of Power Vision and tech support after the sale is unsurpassed by anyone else.
