Mine is under lock and key, plus I scanned it and keep it on my phone, incase, most times the digital copy is fine.
The real one my wife keeps under lock and key. I have a copy in my wallet, it works when needed.
Funny thing is when I was young everone said without a honorable disharge you'd never get anywhere in life. Proved them wrong got me one, still didn't get anywhere in life. What is it they say started out with nothin and still have most of it!
I keep mine locked up in a safe with color copies stored elsewhere. I retired from the service 6 years ago and other than submitting it when I applied for VA compensation, I haven't had to show or use the DD-214. However, I have to show my retired ID card when I go to the Doctor, the Dentist, ask for a military discount, or for base access. So, to me, my most important paper would have to be my retired ID card.
