Garmin 660LM mount/attachment

I know there are a lot of GREAT ways to attach a GPS to your wing but I don't have much time before I go pick up my new to me trike and want to get a Garmin 660LM gps. I asked over at GL1800riders.com and I will ask here to see if someone can help quick. Garmin supplies a universal mount that looks like a U bolt goes over the handlebar. Pic shows it with a 7/8 ordinary handlebar. Will it work with a GL1800 bar? Next part of question. This GPS will take an audio wire to hook into GL1800 system speakeers. OK... if memory serves there is a short audio input and cigrarette lighter in the left map pocket. As I recall, the audio wire is short. How can it be connected to the GPS on the handlebar. Sorry for newb questions but my last 1800 had NAV and I NEVER used the headsets, etc. so am ignorant of all this type stuff. I will get the best mount AFTER I get back from my trip.

Get a Ran Mount as it mounts to the the clutch or brake via their mounting kit.
I have mine on the left so I can hook up power and sound to the left fairing pocket.

+1 on the RAM mount - The universal U-bolt mount won't work on the square GL1800 handlebar. this page has an array of mounting systems for anything you could want to mount. http://www.rammount.com/products/motorcycle#/

In the meantime, unless you can find a place that sells the whole line of RAM mounts, you most likely wont get the parts in time for your trip. You might pick some industrial strength Velcro and attach the GPS to the shelter just below the ignition. Temporary, but it will get you there. As for the audio, Radio Shack or even maybe Walmart will have a 3.5mm male to 3.5mm female jack, usually in 3 to 6 ft lengths. It will play trough the AUX function, the intercom will work but the radio won't. Unless you have a GPS with a music player in it, use a 2-way splitter plug a music player in one side and the GPS in the other you'll get no music.

I went to the web site of GPS City and they have a great video on how to mount the thing using the supplied hardware. Two bolts retain the long part of the mount with the female ball receiver are mounted on the clutch m/c.

You never use the U bolt on the GL1800 bars (won't work). I may wait on the GPS till I get back as I want to wire it in properly and won't have much time as I pick up the trike.

Am I the only one dumb enough to just use the suction cup mount on the windshield? LOL

Going to Maggie Valley, didn't have a ram mount, I just used the cup on the 'shield, plugged it into the left box lighter, and it worked fine. I did use a small length of para-cord to tie it off, in case it came loose. Worked fine, except if the sun was shining right on it.

I never would have tried it with a newer unit. This one was out of one of my old hot-shot trucks, a Nuvi-1300 I believe.

I am cheap at times.
I made my own using 1/4 inch aluminum with a ram mount. Mounts to the clutch perch.
Cost 1 hour of work. Had everything laying around. That is the good part of never getting rid of your spare parts.

Nope I used it on a few rides.Have to watch for really rough spots and such.I had to catch it a few times.Had my cord wrapped short but relying on it to stat plugged in wasn't a good feeling.

I just got my zumo today and it has couple different ways to mount your zumo. One of which is a ram mount.

After looking it over in the box it has everything you will need to mount your zumo. Nothing more to buy. I have a set up that is directly in front of me and never have to take my eyes off the road. I have an aqua box that my old Garmin was in, not water proof, that I will be taking off. When I leave the trike for whatever reason I can just push a button and it will come off. Even has a cover that snaps in place for protecting the contacts it plugs in to.
