Default multiple questions this time

Happy New Year

As long as I have things apart.

1) throttle cable, is this a tbms made part or is it an actual ford part.

mine has broken strands of cable by foot end right where it goes on the cable.

2) plugs, plugs wires coil packs (performance of course) more spark power.

3) cpu does this chip have move than one setting, there are new chips listed

for this engine. not looking for more hp just better mpg.

more later.

Thanks

I can't help you with your questions. I haven't taken any of the parts you asked about apart yet. What kind of MPG's are you looking for? My 08 gets anywhere between 35-38 MPG and I ride with two other Goldwing trike riders and we are always within a 10th of a gallon when we fill up. So I think that's great because the Stallion weigh more and a lager engine and sometime I get the better MPG.

The cable I bet are made up for the Stallion. I would think you could remove it and take it to a Auto Parts store to match it up or get a DIY cable kit. They are a pretty simple cable.

You can search around on the internet for performance parts for the 2300 Ford motor. There are a lot of racing applications for it, so I would expect you could find plug wires and coils that might be of help. Remember you are in tight areas under the hood.

LEAVE THE CPU ALONE. Just a hint. The CPU was modified by Roush Racing for the Stallion.

They changed all the shifting points and all.

One of a kind and if messed up only available from Stallion. Someone all ready tried contacting Roush and were referred to TBMS. So unless you want to deal with transmission issues I would not suggest even touching it.

As Ed stated the Stallion gets between 32 to 34 MPG. All the Goldwing trikes I've come across or have read about get right around the same, so I don't think you are going to improve it much. Even if you were able to get 3 for 4 more mpg would the cost be worth it? Drive 10,000 miles at 32 MPG you burn 312 gals. at 36 MPG you burn 280 gals. At $2.50 per gal that's $82 over the 10k miles difference. If you spent $500 on a different ECM/CPU to get that it would take you almost 7 years to just break even.

Good Morning

The throttle cable looks like an easy fix.
I would like to get 35 mpg, I get 29-30 most time.
my other trikes got 35+ all the time. changing the shift points
in the transmission is why I want into the cpu, I find the shift at
certain points to be rather rough.

I get around 30mpg on mine also. I tried going to a 3.73 rear end and found that it was always shifting down a gear because the rpm's were too low. I went back to the 4.10. I also tried having the computer reprogrammed. The shop I had doing this knew someone at Rousch. They told him to keep the 4.10 because that was the best rear end for it and that the computer has a lock code and unless you have that, you couldn't do anything with it. They had it programmed for the best performance and mpg for the Stallion. You may find something different if you have a shop that can unlock the computer. Interesting that we found that my computer was for a V8 E series van and they were only using half of it for the 4 cyl. Rick

I get 29 - 30. Would like to get low to mid 30s, but it is't going to happen on mine. It seems to already have a good tune for performance which I like and since the cpu is locked really can't experiment anyway. I have a 2008 #142 with 5200 mi. on it.

Mine always runs 27 mpg in town and mostly 30 mpg on the highway if I keep it below 70 mph. I never have seen the high 30's and 40's that some claim.

I think once in the mountains it got up around 35.

MJ got 35 a couple of times in the mountains also. 33 to 34 on the highway where we normally cruise around 65 mph. Other then that 32 to 33. She does not like to go much over 70 so I can not say there but I bet its low.

Ethanol is the killer for our gas mileage!! And another is the additives added in the gas for the area you are in. I get 30-32 most of the time here in central Florida and as soon as I get anywhere out of Florida my mileage goes up !! I have gotten as much as 42 when in Arkansas a couple of years ago and usually get in the mid to upper 30's in a lot of other states. Until we get someone in the White House that will stop some of these crazy EPA rules, we will have to live with lower mileage and higher prices.

My Stallion is an 08 and we took it on a 7,000 mile trip this summer out west and pulling a trailer that I know we over packed and got an average of 32 MPG. We took as many back roads as we could but we had some interstate driving. The trike just turned over 40,000 miles and with a few little problem that I could fix I have been very pleased.

Throttle cable easy fix ya right, can't find connector for carb ball and then the cable is
not available. contact tbms, 6 week wait for new cable. decided to find someone local
to build me one. drove around to all motorcycle shops, car shops ect. finally found a
guy said he would build me one. what a hassle. one problem solved.

Figured that having one made was going to be the answer. The long wait from TBMS was probably because they were going to have to order one from the vendor that they had making them. Did TBMS give you a price? What was the price of the local one being made?

the long wait was because as you said build time. as for the price I think he said
about 65 dollars which actually is not bad. I didn't ask about my rebuild price.
it is a lot of fun to take off also. have to take off cpu and remove zip ties which
hold all the wires together back there
oh well all fun anyway

If you a referring to the black brake switch under the seat with a 5 wire disconnect, you might just want to take it apart and see if the contacts are making/braking contact when the plunger is pushed in. I did that to mine after about 4 switches and 40k later it still is working fine. If not sure about it, try to fine a good mechanic (maybe ford) to look at it for you.

what has happened is that the plastic button that pushes the switch in as you
step on the brake is mushroomed over. it won't travel back and forth sometimes.
