    Default Adjustable Preload.

I have a 2010 Goldwing with a Roadsmith trike kit. The adjustable preload has not been working. I removed the pump and motor and replaced the plastic line with the braided metal line. I got the air worked out of it and was checking to make sure it works correctly and the preload cylinder started leaking know. I have been looking around the internet and it looks like you can only buy this has a kit , pump, damper and shock all in one. anyone have any ideas on fixing this.

You should to be able to buy pats but you'll have to research what they are. I'm sure they are not brand specific. You can buy tanks, solenoids, switches and regulators individually. Fright props and Air train horns ar a couple of sites. Ebay and any place that sells air ride parts should be able to get you what you need.

Sorry to hear about your problem Bille!! That preload assembly can be a bucket of worms!! Where is it leaking? Did you disassemble the pump, clean it out, and reassemble? Might have nicked a seal????? Finding replacements might be difficult. You might be able to buy a used one from one of our members that has converted and eliminated the preload feature. Us Roadsmith guys can't help much there...

Saw this on ebay. It might do the trick ... http://www.ebay.com/itm/2002-Honda-G...9WjCcf&vxp=mtr

Any number if different ViAir pumps will work also.

this will be going on my Champion. I already have a tank and pressure switch so no wait times. I'll have to change the bushings but otherwise should be plug and play.

Dan, I don't believe what you are thinking will work. He is talking about the OEM GL1800 electrically actuated/adjusted hydraulic pump for the mono rear shock. Roadsmith uses this pump to control their trike conversion preload also.

Your information is good to know for the application you plan to use it though. Thanks for sharing.

The hydraulic damper or actuator is leaking. I went through the procedure to refill it and when I was working it it will get up to about 18 on the dash and the damper leaks. Because of the housing around it I can not pin point the exact spot but it is leaking between the housing and the damper.

I've looked at all the part source places I could think of and drew a blank. Looks like you have a couple choices. Take your unit apart again then identify bad seal, locate replacement part, and reassemble. The easier option may be to buy and rebuild a used one.

I know those are not pleasing options but without any sources for parts there just are not good choices...

Tomorrow morning why don't you give Roadsmith a call? Bet they have the answer and the parts needed.

I would give Roadsmith a call. I know they will help you resolve your problem. Great people there. One of the reason I purchased a Roadsmith.

Just to let everyone know I got this problem fixed. I removed the actuator and found that there is a snap ring on the upper tube that holds it in place was not there. The really bad builder that I used did not install it. There is a set screw that keep the actuator from turning and he tried to use that to hold everything together. Well that did not work so the top tube would slide out and the piston would come out to far and the fluid would leak out. I called roadsmith and the were good enough to hunt up a snap ring and send it to me to fix this. Thanks Roadsmith for your help.

Well here is something you can read through to see if you accomplished everything.

    http://www.pbase.com/fredharmon/rearshock

And very soon I will be completing my trike conversion and I will no longer need my rear shock and preload. I would be willing to let it go for $100 including shipping. Mine also includes the 1,200 lb Progressive spring already installed. Just let me know if you want to go this route.

I'm glad you got the problem fixed. Never would have expected the missing ring to be at fault. All one has to do is follow very simple instructions to do that step. Guess your installer relied on his memory ! I bet you felt better to find you had not caused it. I know I sure would have.
