Default Hand Brake

Hello, im new here. I recently forgot to release the hand parking brake, rode home a good 70 mi. I didnt feel any hesitation, or smelled anything burning ie brakes. Can anyone tell me your opinion if i mightve messed anything up? I took it out for a short run to try brakes out, it seemed fine. Thanks

Mine has a light on the dashboard, and I still do it on occasion.

Maybe somebody with better knowledge will come along and correct me, but I believe the e-brake is independent of the regular braking system and should have no effect on it, except to maybe put some extra wear on your disc.

2014 here - properly adjusted for 4th click down per manual .... Roxy isn't moving with the parking brake applied.

2013 and older .... yeah you guys should forget about using it. Many have removed it all together.

BTW I always park in gear and usually use parking brake when I feel it is needed.

I never use mine. If I feel the need for extra braking while parked, I use a velcro strap around the front brake lever

I have also found that a cheap piece of velcro wrapped around the front brake lever works just fine for the few times I really need a parking brake.

For the short period of time that it is on the brake lever, I don't believe it is doing any damage to my brake lines. Guess a chock or rock would also do the job but I really don't want to haul them around all the time. :0)

I'd jump up a rope size or two, though. That string looks a bit weak

I had a '12 and now a '14 TG. Drove off with PB on a couple times with each bike. The '14 and up have a light in the display - so what? Still rode off once.

I also tried leaving in gear = forgot and was shockingly surprised and embarrassed when I started the bike = won't ever do that again, but now it's second nature to ALWAYS pull in the clutch when starting the bike.

I also use a band of Velcro on the brake lever.

    I love the plunger idea

    Default Parking Brake

When I test rode mine I forgot to release the parking brake. I told the dealer before I left with it that it needed to be adjusted. Now if I forget to release it, the bike won't move. I've heard a lot on this forum about the parking brake, but fortunately mine seems to be working well.

They work well if adjusted accordingly. The lever type need to be adjusted at the caliper once in awhile. I also 86 the set screw as to adjust when needed. Otherwise, park in 1st, avoid inclines. JMO
