    Angry Throttle assembly/cable whoas

I have had my trike for 6 years and am still having a problem with the throttle assembly and cable. The sheath does not stay in the throttle assembly and the assembly is constantly sticking. It pulls the cable but one released there is too much slack so when I throttle again, there is not enough pull on the carb. I bought a new assembly and am dealing with this problem all over again. I used to use a pipe cleaner to hold the sheath to the assembly and that worked for a while. So frustrated. Do not have a push/pull assembly since VW is single cable. Going to try and lubricate the sheath today and see if that helps. If anyone understands and knows my pain, please reply.

Sorry it's being a PITA but if you could load some pics of the connection points, at the throttle and at the carb, it would help to diagnose the issue.

Kind of what MdKnghtMan stated. The carb connection probably isn't necessary as I'm sure its probably the standard feral with the screw but the hand throttle connection would be a helpful picture.

And, a huge welcome to TrikeTalk man!!!!! We are all glad you found us.

Sounds like the outer or sheath is not secured at the engine end.
Just like it has a ferrule and socket at the twist end, it must also have the same at the engine end.

I agree with DeathBySnuSnu. If it (the outer sheath) isn't secure at both ends, the whole cable flexes instead of the inside cable sliding and if the cable cannot side or if it has a weak return spring it is going to be a slow return and bind up.

The above answers to the problem are correct. The outer housing must have a stop on both ends. All vw type 1 engines came from factory with a approx. 10 in steel tube that went thru the fan housing. If you don't have one, here is a simple and good way. Buy a 10 in. piece of 1/4 in soft copper tubing and flare one end only. Slide a 5/16 in id washer on tube to flared end. Insert tube from rear side (carb side) thru original hole till it stops.

Slide a 3/4" piece of rubber fuel line over tube till it contacts fan housing. Secure in place with a hose clamp. Now, Cut another 1" piece rubber hose and slide on end of copper tubing about half way, then secure with a hose clamp. Now, insert inner and outer throttle thru copper tube and secure the outer housing with another clamp. Make sure your choke assembly is off and take all slack out of your inner cable. This has proven to be the best. Also, the copper tube will not rust and cable slides easy. Be sure to lube the inside of housing before putting inner cable in. Good Luck! KEEP-ON-TRIKIN" Dick

    Default Throttle

Hello, If your problem is at the handel bar and not the motor, it made me crazy for awhile. I bought a new cable from Rat Race Prod. in Az. and the throttle assembly from some place else. The brass cap on the cable shieth, at the handel bar end, was too big to fit into the shieth adjuster on the bottom of the throttle assembly. I know, that sounds as clear as gumbo mud, but it's the best discription I could come up with. Any way, I used a short piece of black fuel line split down one side. I slid one end of the fuel line over the shieth adjuster neck on the bottom of the throttle assembly and secured it with a very small hose clamp. I slid the brass end od the shieth into the other end of the fuel line and secured it with a very small hose clamp. After a couple minor adjustments, it has worked well for about 20k.

If I misunderstood your problem, I appologise for taking up so much space. Thanks for your time,
