    Default How to handle stops on a hill

    I live in a pretty hilly area. What's the best way to hold my trike on a hill, and then start moving without rolling backwards too much or gunning it too much? From my limited experience on 2 wheels, hills are my nemesis. So much so, that I gave up riding.

    rule of thumb, and how i was taught was to use your back brake, it takes a little practice but you will master it

    Like previous posted back [foot] brake and cluch in' Trans in first gear, Then when you have to go' Ease out the cluch and off the brake and give a little throttle...It is much easier on a Trike than with a two wheeler...

    Yes, rear brake. Most of us know this, but you're relatively new, so I'll repeat it: NEVER put your feet down! Ever! Use the rear brake, and when you feel the clutch starting to take hold, ease off the rear brake and ride away. But *never* put your feet on the ground unless you're parked, the engine is off, and you're getting off the machine. (I personally always apply the parking brake, even if I'm on level ground).
    2024 Tri Glide! Only modifications so far - transferred Rider backrest from old 2015 Freewheeler, just added highway pegs!

    That's easier said than done some days - having come straight off a motorcycle to a trike. I've had mine a year and still can't get out of the habit of not putting my feet down at a stop. I've just recently quit trying to put the kickstand down.

    Heed what he writes. I am an example of putting a foot down at the wrong time. Broken ankle that is still not right after 12 weeks.
