Default I went to the dark side

After two years and two round trips from Florida to Alaska, I threw in the towel and sold my 2013 orange Stallion because it was not designed for cross continent trips.
For starters, the brake light switch failed three times, the cruise control twice and the parking interlock switch kept failing (where you can't get it out of park). Critical components were situated in exposed locations. Radiator neck cracked and leaked coolant.
I then got a 2016 Polaris Slingshot for $10,000 less than the Stallion and had a flawless trip to Alaska and back. See AlaskaBikeRun.com
I keep reading of other problems y'all have been posting. While the Stallion is a gorgeous looking trike, you should consider pulling the plug and stop throwing money at it and get a Slingshot!!
If you are only riding locally and in good weather, then keep it but consider the Slingshot.

congratulations if you are that un happy with the Stallion then you made the correct choice. Luckily not all Stallions had the problems you in countered. My wifes been across county several times. It has 85k mostly trouble free miles on it. We just returned from going around Lake Huron and back to the Keys (5185 miles) without issue. Ride safe and enjoy your new ride

Congrats on getting your new Sling Shot I have looked at them but still like my Stallion. I have been on several long trips with my Stallion like last year 7200 miles and for the most part it has been trouble free. Yes I have some issues with it but nothing major. I plan on keeping it at least a couple more years. Then I might look at the Sling Shot and by then they will have worked out their issues Happy riding and be safe.

In 1983 I put my entire reenlistments bonus into a new Porsche Turbo Carrera .... although a sexy, fast, handled like it was on rails machine, it had more issues than any vehicle I ever owned. After just 8 months, probably 3 of those it was in the shop, I traded it in on a van ... doesn't matter who makes it ... every once in awhile you get a bad one. I suspect Stallion's are no different. Good luck with the slingshot.

Very sorry about your bad experience with the Stallion. I admit that I had a couple of brake switch failures that your Stallion had also. I finally took apart the brake switch and adjusted the contacts myself and haven't had a problem with most of the issues you suffered from. 65k and running strong. Will be going on a 2600 miles run in Sept. Enjoy your new ride.

He has a body shop. He knew of the issues and was happy with the sales price ... Less than half of what I paid for it.

Hope you guys can join me in 2017 to Alaska. See AlaskaBikeRun dot com

After test driving a Slingshot, I've found the Stallion to be a much more stable and trustworthy trike. Too bad you had to post your unhappy thoughts here rather than just going on with your life. Carry on and drive safe.

Default Trustworthy test driving vs cross continent trips

In addition to what I had posted, a test drive doesn't compare with 8,000 miles to Alaska from Florida and back twice on the Stallion and once on the Slingshot.
To give you an idea of my qualifications and background to post my thoughts, I am reasonably competent with upkeep and maintenance with my current 2004 Gold Wing and full sized sidecar having 279,000 miles on original engine and drive train.
I've commuted 150 miles daily 28 years on motorcycles, in addition.
The Stallion had caused me many problems and when I had Evans Automotive, a 1st place winner in automotive service, fix the Stallion with authorization from Thoroughbred, they said locations and design of components related to braking switches, parking interlock and cruise control switch were not appropriate, causing road debris to render them useless.
These parts were replaced multiple times and I had to return from Alaska with no brake lights.
Evans had correspondences regarding defective design of radiator neck also.
So, in summary, I had the Stallion in shop a total of 24 days the last several months and ultimately the parking interlock and cruise control simply couldn't be fixed.
$36,000 for this with 36,000 mile warranty and with a Slingshot only $19,900 with a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty is something to think of, not just a "test drive".

To each his own....at least I've been on both sides of the fence!

When I got the Stallion from you the radiator was still leaking , the cruise did not work & the park lock did not work ? I called Stallion they gave me two new cruise control & park lock switch I replaced them & they have been working fine ? From what I can see the radiator was never replaced ? I replaced the radiator cap , which I had to grind down the under side of it because it hit on the return hose , I also replaced the return hose clamp because somebody put on a 3/4inch clap on a 3/8 hose it just did not work ? So far no more leaks & every thing is working fine .

Road Dog, sounds like you got your Stallion going and hope everything keeps on track for you. Buy the way it sound, it's good you do your own maintenance. Since the warranty went out on my Stallion I've done all the maintenance on my Stallion and everything has worked as it should. I know everyone can't do their own maintenance but if you can and if you want to it is best.

rhino2 Stallion (Thoroughbred Motor Sports) is a sub company of Motor Trike. They are very much still in business. I just ordered 4 new shocks from them for my wife's Stallion. Between the fact that a lot of parts are from Ford and what we still can get from Motor Trike I do not see parts being a problem for awhile. The core group of us plan on keeping them running for some time.

Since I can't twist a throttle any longer, and I don't want something that my teeth are the same level as a bumper, I plan on keeping my Stallion as long as I can. Rick
