I ride a 2003 Valkyrie CSC Trike. It’s front tire is a Dunlop 404 Rear Tire with backward rotation and 40 to 42 lb. air pressure. It has 18,000 miles on it with no cupping.

My last front was a Brigestone Ba
ttlax Rear Tire with backward rotation and 40 to 42 lb. air pressure. It started to cup on the left side at 13,000 miles. I replaced it at 14,000 miles because I did not like the ride.

    Happy trails,
    God bless

I've got a BT45 on front with over 31,000 miles and no cupping. I run 41psi and now getting near the wear bars and plan to try the Avon trike tire mainly because of the reports of such better handling.

I should add that the BT45 was run in normal rotation.

With mileage like that I'm surprised you want to change.

I found that the BT45 got very high mileage for riders in the flat land...but for those that ride the roads that have curves...17,000 is the best I got from 2 of them...

I have about 6000 miles on my Avon trike tire, with no cupping. I figure I will get about 12000 miles out of the tire.

    Default front tire on trike

I am running a Brigestone Batttlax 45, tire reverse rotation . I have 17,000 on it now and it is cupped and sings pretty good, lots of tread left. I ride mostly flat land with a few trips to texas hill contry, Ark. NC when I can. I run 41 lb in the front all the time, harsh ride but better mil. my guess the cupping is from the kind of roads here at home. I am looking at the Avon Trike tire for my next tire.

I can't find a Honda dealer that will install the Battlax in reverse or forward on my trike. Thinking about just doing it myself but they probably won't even balance it for me. I've been told by a few people that you don't need to balance the front tire. Can anybody give me some words of wisdom on this situation? I sure can use some help!! Thanks, Rick

    Hey Lucky,

What brand and size is the MPA tire you are running on your trike? I bought the Battlax tire for the front end of mine but can't find a Honda shop that will mount it for me. Thanks, Rick

    Rick,

First, you can get by without balancing the front tire but the miles you get out of the tire will be reduced considerably. I have Centrimatics installed on my front end; they make a huge difference in the ride and handling, and I think they have made a great difference in the miles I get out of it. I am running a Bridgestone rear tire in the forward direction. I have over 20,000 miles on it with very little wear and no cupping.

If you want to go that far, there is a dealer in Beckley, WV, who will install your tire. Beckley Trike Sales, 132 Cook Ave, Beckley WV (304)222-2114.

The guy's name is Jim Bostic.

He's about 70 miles from you.

Sounds like it would be worth the trip. If you want to see a little of his operation, take a look at this:

And to put your mind at ease, I have no ongoing relationship with him. I have neither seen nor spoken to him since the day I made this video.

I just turned over 6k on my avon trike tire today and I will be lucky if I get 8 to 9k total out of it. (40 psi) I live in the twisties of ark, no straights for me less I go to kansas.

    Default Front Trike Tire

Thanks to everyone for their advice in helping me out with my questions!! I got some good advice! I said a few weeks after I joined this forum that there is a wealth of knowledge to be given and learned on this forum. I'm so glad to have found this site!! As a "Rookie" to the trike, I'm very thankful to all you guys and gals for your help! I've rode 2 wheelers since I was 12 or 13 and this is a total different experience. Again, thanks for all the advice you guys share on here. I'm sure I will have more questions in the future!

Always have a good ride and be safe out there!!

I'm not all that impressed with my Cobra trike tire having switch from the BT 45 (rear), I'll not be doing that again. Seems, in my own mind, I paid more and got the same or less.

The BT45 and the Pilot Activ would get 25,000 miles plus if you could handle the cupping.

    Just asking !!!
I'm also waiting to hear more about Avon Trike tire. My first BT 45 Lasted only 19K miles severly cupped (my mistake) My 2nd one now has 24K plus 2/32 center tread and mild cupping. Balanced with Dyna Beads. Ordering mt 3rd BT45 soon.

    Default Front Trike Tire

Back in mid Aug 2016, I posted a thread on my trip starting evaluation of the Avon Trike Tire. At time time i had ridden under 2000 miles on a planned 9000 mile trip around the country. Returned home Qct. 5th with 8,763 miles and my only comment is, I love the tire. My trike is a 2012 GL1800 with a Lehman Monarch II kit. I also have a super brace mounted and run the tire at 41 PSI. I found the tire seems to smooth out the normal expansion joints and bumps. Handling in the twisties was great with no scrubbing nor a feeling of chatter in tight turns. Straight-aways at 70 MPH were very smooth and tracked very well. Now, tire wear was a great surprise.

After almost 9000 miles there is no cupping or scaliping and the tire looks new with plenty of thread left.

The footprint is much wider than the OEM.

I'm sold on this tire and feel that AVON knocked it out of the park.

I also run Ride-On Balance in all Tires

durango9- I am not familiar with the Ride On Balance you are talking about.

Could you please tell me what you are talking about?

Never heard of it before. Thanks, Rick

Ride on is a sealant and balancer that is squeezed into an unflated tire. Once installed the tire is inflated to proper PSI and immediately run in order to distribute the balance on the indise of the tire. Once it fills in all the pockets (about 10 miles) the true balance is achieved. As the tire wears the balance continues to move keeping all the pockets evenly filled with the balancer. As a second plus it also acts as a sealant against punctures. This product is not like the SLIME of the olden days. It stays fixed to the inside of the tire and can be peeled off without any rim mess to clean up.

Do a Web search on the product and you can learn more about the it

durango9, thanks for answering my question! I went ahead last night and did a search on it. I think I will try it next tire change.
