OK, I am confused....V-Twin, production motors up and until the M8 have 2 valves per cylinder and two cylinders.....that is a total of 4 valves.........
Now, has HD made 4 valve per cylinder prototypes....Oh Yah! There are a few on the motor wall at their museum..... In fact, some of those prototype motors they have on display can make you mouth water if you study them for a bit.....

"JD" John, who has left us, owned an 8 valve 'JD' he said was a factory board track racer. However, the recent "Harley and the Davidsons" series says that H-D boycotted board track racing so ???. Frankly, I'll believe John. He said that Willy G sent some people out who studied and measured his bike because records had been lost during the AMA years. Then H-D announced that Willy G had the only 'authentic' 8 valve JD and that john's wasn't "authentic' because it had a transmission but John had paperwork that said otherwise so again ????. So, was John's JD a prototype or ???.
John and Lance also rode JDs with 'Flexi' hacks from SoCal to Sturgis and back but they were 4 valves.
Too bad my father passed away, I am sure he would know about the 8 valve. He used to race on boards and worked for HD. After WWII he was sent to Borger, Texas to open a motorcycle shop to keep the surplus Harleys and Indians running for the workers at the Phillips refinery. He then was sent to Joplin, MO to get a shop up and running then back to Borger.
He was born in 1920 and his father, born in 1887, always had some type of motorcycle. I have a picture of my grandfather on a motorcycle that has Eagle on the tank which was taken when he was a young man. I wish I had asked for more information on it before my daddy passed away. I don't know if Eagle is the brand or the model name.

OK, motor aside, what else has changed on the 2017 FLRT?

Wasn't the cat moved back from the header?
From what I was told at my dealer, the cat was moved to the back of the back (or at least further back than it was) which should help with the heat problem on your right leg. Before, it was right next to your right leg. Combine that with the other changes in the M8 and it should help with heat problem. I hope so because that's my only complaint with my FW.

More Passenger Comfort- Positions for the rear exhaust pipe and catalytic converters provide a more comfortable ride.
According to totalmotorcycle.com
Of course they also say this "Narrow Primary- The narrower primary drive gives your left foot a straighter, easier reach to the ground, for an easier lift off and more control at stoplights."
Kind of funny if you thin about it.
