New to trikes

45 years up on two wheels, I had to go to a trike if I wanted to continue riding due to a diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease. I've sold off my other bikes and purchased a Can Am Spyder RT Limited. Its a beautiful trike and I am happy with everything about it except for the handling of it. I feel like the bike wants to high side in the turns and on the straights it wanders a little too much for my liking. I don't have much time on it yet due to the summer heat. Once we get through the hot weather I will be riding again. I'm told that I need to ride it more to get use to its characteristics and develop new riding habits. I live in Palmdale, Ca.

Welcome aboard. No matter which trike you were to purchased there is a 400 + transition period. The highside feeling and the twitchy steering are among the first issues to be converted to. It helps a lot if you push down hard on the floorboard/footpeg as you turn on the side away from the turn and also lean a little. There nothing wrong with leaning a little on a trike. Doesn't make it turn but it makes you feel better it the turn. The steering will work itself out as you adapt. Enjoy and ride safe.

I have to agree with ' Gorilla ' load the outside peg and lean in ,I do it all the time it just feels natural now.

I almost didn't make it out of the driveway when I triked it. Hit grass on both sides and across the street before I got it straight. Now I can do the twisties faster than 2 wheelers. Give it time! And welcome to TT from MI and TX

Welcome...Agree that it gets better...my own trike tracks very straight and true without wander. I take curves a bit slower than I would with a two wheeler...Once in awhile, just for fun, I shift my butt away from the direction I'm turning and that takes away just about any sensation of gravity...
