Dang Steve, your a patient man for sure! With all that's happened I'd say your entitled to another new trike, not the torn down and still not fixed again one!!! with the amount of money and time you've spent I wouldn't except any less than that or a really good discount, with repair and the ESP. I'll keep my fingers crossed

I had carried one set of keys and fob and left with the trike so that they could start it. Got there and they took it to the gas station and refilled the tank. They said they had ridden 60 miles with no problems. I said good. Fixed it and I am good to go, Gave the wife the key and fob that had been with the bike and she went to her car. My fob would not disarm the security. I told the service guy and he said probably the fob battery, I will get one. Came back and did not have one. I said ok I have one and will install.

Should have lnown something was not right.

Went next door to Quaker Steak and lube for supper. Opened mayo for burger and squeezed it and it popped and squirted the wife with mayo.

She isn't happy. Halfway through the meal, I sat my glass down and promptly spilled a full glass of tea on the table.

Should have quit while I was ahead.

Left and got exactly 11.4 miles down the road and the check engine light and temp light came on. Stopped, pulled over and let it cool. Texted sales guy. No response, called sales guy..no response. By this time I am very pissed.

Decided I would take the trike back to dealer and see if they had a key drop, leave it outside and call them in morning. Eureka, someone is there.

Tried to leave keys with him and he said he couldn't accept them. He was finance guy. I threw both sets of keys on his desk and said it's outside service.

He asked what I wanted him to do. Told him fix my damn trike. He said no what to do tonight.

I said either put it inside or leave it outside I don't care. It is insured but you have the keys so if something happens to it, I am looking to the dealer to make it right.

I am to the point that they have ridden it more than me and have had it more than me. Right now I want a new motor or new trike or my trade in back and my check back. I think this trike is snake bit.

    What are your thoughts?

    What would you ask for?
Steve, I think it is time to have a serious one-on-one conversation with your owner friend behind close doors with no shouting if possible. There are some red flags raised when you were told that they found nothing wrong. Why would an engine with nothing wrong puke oil in the first place? Furthermore, one would wonder why your new M8 engine is throwing a check engine code and overheating?

Did you pull the radiator cover on the right lower fairing panel to see what the fluid level was?

I would think that some of the frustration would be coming from not being able to go more than 11 miles before these new faults cropped up and also not yet able to go 100 miles total on a new trike. I don't know what your lemon laws are in your particular State but I would look them up before your next meeting with the dealership.

Some State's laws are more specific about down times and the amount of problems a customer experiences before the Lemon Laws are applicable. I would certainly do a quick but thorough read of those laws before you meet up with the owner.

So far, it appears that both you and the dealer have been reasonable in your approach to solving the initial problem. At this point, there are really a number of different decisions that both you and the dealer can make to help you become a happier customer with this cropping up of a second set of problems on a newly worked-on new trike.

Clear communication and problem solving between you and the owner will be the best next approach to getting things squared away. Hopefully, that meeting will go well and you will both walk out with smiles in whatever strategies you two come up with.

The darn editor wouldn't let me add to my previous post that there may be lawyers reading this that would have a professional understanding of your rights and remedies. That is always one option but introducing a third-party may or may not be advisable depending on how your meeting with your dealership owner goes? I couldn't begin to comment on the advisability of that approach. I hope you will remember that it is easier for those of us who are just reading this to give all kinds of advice but we are not there on the ground and don't know the players. You do, and so you really likely have the best understanding of how to get past this rugged situation in a manner that will make you happy with the sale. Much good luck in the coming days and know that your Harley brothers/sisters are thinking positive thoughts for a good resolution of your problems. Thanks for letting us know what is happening. I hope you get to the bottom of why the problems have been occurring?

M8 -new motor, new electronics. So new that it's going to take dealer tecs a year to get acquainted with it, even though the MOCO trained them, or maybe familiarized them. Like it was all stated before, some one needs to be the guinea pig on new production, Personaly I stick to my 2 year rule.
😉 Good luck, you will need patience.

A good nights sleep didn't make anything better so far. I appreciate the support from you guys. This is my 5th new Harley since 2005. Never any problems with any one of them except this demon bike. I'd have it exorcised if it would make it to a church. I now have no confidence it will make it to the city limits much less anywhere I would want to travel to. I'll see what today brings and post an update on what they say. Thanks for the suggestions and support.

    Default bad trike

I am very sorry for your troubles I know they are frustrating. I had a similar problem with a new 2010 street glide Harley trike I bought. They didn't seem to be able to fix it and all the yelling and complaining to the dealership and to Harley did nothing. I waited a week and went to a different dealer and traded it in for a new one. when asked why I was trading I said my wife hated the color. It cost me $2000.00 difference but I thought it was worth it and I had no problems with the new one.

Steve, I have almost wet my pants in anticipation of hearing the outcome of your new trike situation with the dealer. The potential incontinence may be more linked to my aging but then again, I have half held my breath hoping that you come out of this situation with a big grin on your face. I know that there are lots of people pulling for you both here and on another website where you posted your situation. Hope this day is bringing more rays of sunshine

Default Update to the ....ad nauseum

Capt Bob Your humor made me smile

Ok Just got a call from the Dealer. Seems as if the MOCO left out some collars around the pushrods holding the springs and it changed the flow of the oil and it sought a different way through the motor. Not sure how that happens but that is their story. They said the pushrods without collars were eating into the O-rings. I said , so now I have rubber bits circulating through my oil. He said the motorcycle thought there was reduced oil pressure and threw a code, then thought it was running hot and lit the light. He said they were going to check to see if they had the parts to fix it or have them sent from the MOCO. I said hold on. The MOCO needs to step in and replace the motor or the dealership owner needs to step in and buy the trike back. Told him I had zero confidence in the bike.

New bike less than 200 miles and the motor has been into twice.

I don't ride bar to bar , I ride state to state. Never will I be able to trust that motor.

Said he would get back to me this afternoon after checking on parts and talking to HD. I told him don't worry about the parts, check on replacing the motor. So here we are.

Truth be known, I am about up to here with it. I had almost rather just have my trike back. and my money of course.

Steve, Sorry about the relatively poor progress toward satisfactory resolution of your problem. You had mentioned in a post that you live in North Carolina. Here is a link to the NC lemon laws that cover your trike.

    http://www.ncdoj.com/Consumer/Automo...Lemon-Law.aspx

Much good luck moving forward. The NC law is pretty straight forward and seems to have elements in it that may be moving your experience toward the statute? You would need to consult a good NC attorney to flesh out the best strategy going forward as it pertains to the lemon law issues and how it might specifically impact your situation. I think your argument about rubber bits floating around inside your engine would cause many of us concerns. Additionally, since the diagnostics appeared to have been somewhat flubbed in the field and so who knows what the oil starvation in the upper parts of your engine have impacted?

Man, we are all pulling for you and hoping that the owner of the dealership and the MOCO do the right thing that makes everyone happy. This situation is likely not adding stimulation to sales of new M8-engined bikes and I would think that the MOCO would want to put this one to bed and have a happy customer and a great story tell to other potential buyers.

Default This just gets worse ................ :-(

About sums it up. Only thing worse I can think of would be my ex wife moving back from Canada and needing a place to stay. Hopefully this ordeal will be resolved to Steve's satisfaction.

Steve its njtrike again. Hope the boys don't jump me as hard after the last post to you but I'm thinking a point not to be forgotten is that when Motor Company Technician tore into the motor he claimed they found nothing wrong. Now there saying this guy left some parts out and the little pieces restricted the oil flow and caused a code to be thrown and the overheat indicator to be turned on. Your motor is in worse shape now than before they worked on it. I'm thinking these people aren't up to speed yet on the new engine. AlsoI know some guys that had oil pressure issues when they got some particles in the oil and it was impossible to flush the motor out. These particles caused the oil pressure to be to high when they resticed the flow. I totally support your position of a new motor or better yet a new trike , or a full refund.

Talked to the dealer yesterday.. HD is sending parts to repair it. The pushrods tubes have springs in the, to keep the upper tight. There's is supposed. To be A collar th spring sits on and keeps the spring from eating the o ring and keeping the oil in the tubes. Dealer wants me to be with him when he calls the MOCO. He wants me happy but as he said, he don't build them, he sells them. Told him to me he represented HD and I gave my money to him.

He wants HD to replace the motor. He is at a PG group (peer group) meeting with other dealers and HD.

He has all my paperwork with him.

Again, my issue is not with the dealer but the MOCO. Supposed to be fixed and testing on Tuesday. Rubber oil and all. Btw. I have put 70 miles on it. They put 160 so far

i am riding my old trike until they get mine resolved.
