Roadsmith brake bleeding.

I'm needing to bleed the brakes on my roadsmith trike and would like to know if since the rear brakes are linked to front brakes if their is a special sequence to bleed them. The resivoir is full but I have to pump the foot brake 4/5 times to bring them up. Open to any suggestions or tips. TIA

I don't know the procedure for the new RS HTS1800 but I would suggest you call your installer or RS.

I have the non-linked HT1800 and I know how to mine.

I found this on the RS website under the HTS1800 trike section "downloads" - manual. Maybe this is what you're looking for:

b. Bleed the rear brake pedal system thoroughly, refilling the reservoir as necessary c. NOTE: This bleeding process involves the rear brake pedal/master cylinder only- The front brake lever/master cylinder system does not need to be bled during the conversion. d. NOTE: Use the top bleeder fitting on each rear caliper only e. Start the bleeding process by opening the upper bleed screw on the right rear caliper, bleed the caliper until air appears to be gone, repeat on left rear caliper. f.

Move to and bleed front calipers, NOTE: The rear brake pedal/master cylinder actuates the front brake caliper bleeder screws directed below.

g.

Using only the upper bleed screw on left caliper- bleed the left front caliper h. Using only the lower bleed screw on the right front caliper- bleed the right front caliper i. Return to the rear calipers and final bleed them using only the upper bleed screws j. Check rear brake pedal operation- repeat bleeding operation if needed.

Mike what year is your conversion? I believe Roadsmith delinked their brakes until very recently. If that is true you shouldn't need to bleed the entire system. However, if they are linked then a full system bleed per the bike shop manual is a good idea. Also, if your breaks are indeed linked and you have not had the most recent brake recall completed I recommend you get that done. They will bleed the entire brake system for you....

If your brakes are linked, there is a special process to bleed them, call RS for details.

Thanks mhgoldwing that sounds like quite a process. Gold Rush I just had the conversion done a month ago, not even 800 miles on it yet. The owners manual they gave me is at best 8 small pages. I sent RS an email on my concern and it should be covered under the warranty. I would have no problem taking it down to Niehaus where conversion was done. Tomorrow I'm going to check resivoir to see if it's low, if I can get to it. Pulled battery side off and it looks like it could be fun getting battery out. I did get install instructions where mhgoldwing got the info but hopefully it is for new system fill.

From your description it sound like you think the rear master cylinder reservoir is under the left side cover. It is actually under the right engine side cover just above where you'd check/add oil. If it is low you'll find getting the cover off easier if you remove the reverse actuator cables from their bracket.

It's easy enough to see the fluid level without taking the cover off though.

Since the conversion is new and you don't mind, taking a ride to Niehaus is not a bad idea.

Something may have worked loose.....
