    Default Melting Dashes

    Has anyone heard of this? Stumbled across this while doing a search for Tulsa tall windshield which my 02 currently has. Supposedly people say when the sun gets behind your parked trike is when it can warp or slightly melt your dash. If its true then all the more reason to replace my Tulsa shield

    Anything is possible, If the sun is hot enough. I had a Spyder and the speedo cluster were LED's and sometimes when i parked with the sun directly over head the heat would screw up the LED's. Till they cooled down...

    Morning Brian. Back in the very early GL1800 years there was an issue with the speedometer warping when direct sunlight baked on it for a while. My '01 did it once. Came into a small town and let off the gas. Looked down at the speedo and I was still doing 65 mph???!! Not all bikes did this and HONDA did have a service bulletin for the problem.

    Its an issue thats more prevalent with a Tulsa but depending on the angle of the sun it can also happen with a stock windshield. Ive run a Tulsa+4 since 07 and unfortunately my Tulsa has been in the Mojave and a few other places where heat is not your best friend and has damaged my speedo. What happened on mine is the plastic onthe right side of the speedo needle slightly deformed from heat so at night you can see a line of light at night next to the speedo needle. After almost 10 years I can live with this.

    In the thread I found on goldwingdocs they were mostly blaming the Tulsa windshield for problem. I went back to thread and also found most all with problem had GL1500 & temps were mid 90s+

    Call me fair weather rider but at 90+ degrees I'm in A/C or my pool and bike or trike is in garage. LOL

    From what Mick says I guess maybe the Tulsa shield could cause reflected or magnified heat. Just never paid much attention to Tulsa related posts so I don't have any knowledge there Brian. I see that F4 Customs is running a sale right now. If you are in the market it may be a consideration... Mick's issue is not caused by HONDA so the ball is in your park there.

    I had the Tulsa tall on my 2002 for over 100,000 miles with no dash problems...but if you want to be on the safe side just pull an old t-shirt over the windshield when you stop.

    Other reason I'm in market for different shield is this Tulsa is 28" from rubber strip on front to top of shield. Shield is thicker than oem and from what I've read about the Tulsa touring like I have is your not able adjust the height. Explains why I can't adjust mine. Took front apart last week thinking there was a problem like something jammed or broke behind the fairing. Everything looked good.

    Called Clear view today & can get a 3" wider, 26" tall, clear with vent for $253 shipped. I mentioned the sale F4 had going and he gave me 20% off. For the money I went with Clearview.

    Don't know anything about Clearview...but I did have an F4 on my 2008 wing & as much as I liked the Tulsa tall, I liked the F4 better..

    I'm gonna find out in a few days if I like Clear view or not. Read about the F4 and liked them but just couldn't get over the $400 price.

    Yeah, that's where I started hearing of it. I usually slip a half cover on the trike or bike if going to park long time in sun, and if a really hot day .... even a Windshield Tee if just for a short time. If secure parking or attended, where I trust no theft ..... I'll lay my jacket across speedo / gage area. Try to park with sun shining from the front helps too.

    Exactly what I do! Works well to keep sun and prying fingers off of the bike! Also keeps that black seat cool.
    Wing with Roadsmith kit, Traxxion Ak20 cartridges and Accuride System.

    07 ST 1300 for two-wheeled fun!

    In 2001, Honda had an issue with warped speedo backing plates. Service Bulletin SB-8 addressed its replacement. From that point forward, Honda has always used an updated speedo head.

    As for current warpage, I've seen many with a warped speedo needle as Mick shows in post #4. All have been from an aftermarket windscreens. Faulting Tulsa alone seems unfair. However, I've never seen it happen from an OEM windscreen.

    Well I'll be carrying an old T-shirt with me to slip over windshield. Done this on my last bike but only to the extra windshield that wasn't on bike. Had a short & tall. Had the Yamaha quick detach system
