Thread: Gear whine on CSC Conversion

The owner bought this trike used, the mileage/age of trike is not known. However, the mileage on the ODM is 57k. And the kit is on a 2005 GL1800.
Yes ... the gearbox in the rear also has a film of oil on it. Not to the point that I would worry about it, as in something leaking. Oil could be weeping from the "silicone gasket" between the 2 gear boxes, of from silicone oil over spray ... or possibly the gear boxes come shipped with a film of oil on them when new. The oil film does not appear to be coming from any seals, or axel boots leaking.

Aside from regular oil changes the last service previous owner had done was at 39k miles which was rear diff, gearbox, clutch and brake fluids change.

By nature, GL1800s all have a whine coming from the engine area. More specifically, it mainly comes from a drive unit that drives the alternator. The alternator drive unit is called an alternator drive gear, and it's housed in the rear case directly in front of the alternator. Also know as a ADG. If you remove the chrome engine cover on the left side, you will see the alternator. If this is the whine that you are hearing, it should me loudest near the alternator.
What you might be hearing could be normal. The 2006+ years are usually whinier. However, the 2001-05 are whinny too, and if your Wing has ever had an ADG repair, the whine can be very similar to the newer years. A trained ear can tell the difference, and should be able to distinguish if your whine is normal and nothing to worry about. Most owners learn to "tune" out ADG whine.

We bought a 2010 1800 goldwing this past year with California Side Car trike kit on it. Was installed 3-11 according to Will @ CSC . Have around 11,000 miles on it now. Noticed every once in awhile when coming to a complete stop and using the foot brake it will make kind of a clunking sound but not a deep sounding clunk. Does this once and is fine. Might do it on next stop and might not. Should state that it makes the sound after coming to a complete stop and when just starting to take off from a complete stop.
Didn't do this before Honda Brake Recall. But they looked it over and said everything looks fine and runs like it should. Won't make the clunk all the time is the weird part. Of course won't do it at dealers either!
Will @ CSC said the driveshaft weld service bulletin was done on 6-28-12.
I am wondering if it is the splines on the driveshaft.
What does one ask for if wanting the driveshaft update kit you guys are talking about?
Appreciate any help you can give me!
