I commute everyday, 14 miles one way...unless I stretch it out a bit...sometimes it is 30-40 miles one way.
14 miles is barely enough to get it warmed up, your 44 miles is a good amount, no chance of building up moisture in the oil from a bunch of short rides like I have.
If you're concerned about the paint, I have 3M film protection on my paint...it's a good idea regardless of the commute, to protect the fenders, side covers, etc.
I don't have a cage, so I am either on the Tri-Glide or one of my 2 wheelers for going anywhere...I do borrow Mary's truck every now and then.
When commuting...riding the same roads everyday...the bigger thing to be concerned about is getting lax in traveling the same roads everyday, maybe being pre-occupied with what needs to be done when getting to work, or with getting home.
I constantly "self-talk" reminding myself that everyone is out to get me...other drivers, critters, road repair (or lack of it), and to constantly be aware of everything, even though the last 500 times I traveled the same route nothing happened.
