Are these things worth buying? I know for $500.00 they ain't worth it. Need a little feed back on them, thanks in advance

If you're talking about the Garmin Zumo, I'd say they're worth it...to me at least. Some use a GPS/Map app on a cell phone with success, so that might be the way for you to go if you don't want to spend the money on a separate GPS system. There are other less expensive GPS options out there, but I don't have any experience with them. Maybe others do.

Get a remote mounted unit. Amazon has them starting at $85.00. Use a Ram Mount. I've got a GPS and XM Radio mounted that way.

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.
I have a Garmin Zumo 660. I have had it for 6 years.Best thing I ever bought. I also bought some cheap ear buds, cut one side off use the other one in my right ear so I can hear the Gps at speed. I would not go anywhere without it. It has probably saved me hundreds in speeding tickets as it also tells you the speed limit and if you are speeding or not
If you have to ask, then no.
If you like to get lost, then no.
I didn't give 10 seconds thought on buying the H-D branded Zumo 660(more money then regular 660). I also had the fairing mount so there was no wires showing and looked clean and all the direction came out of the speakers loud and clear. It was a snap to remove and attach with the fairing cradle. Yes it was more expensive, but I'm worth it.
Go all the way or go home!

100% I have had mine for about the same timeframe (6 - 7yrs) and even move into my truck from time to time when I have pre-loaded a route map via Base Camp. Went all the way from Oregon to the Dayton Beach Rally pulling my bike in a cargo trailer with the HD 660 Zumo mounted on the windshield. Took my right to the Motel Doorway in Daytona Beach. and if something happened to this one, I would purchase another!!
