Saddlebags installed

Installed our saddlebags today, used 3m industrial hook and loop. Seams solid and holding great. Will keep an eye on them but I believe we are good to go.

plus if down the road we trade for a newer model we can take them with us, no holes drilled. I hate losing goodies on a trade!

I used 3M "Dual Lock" fastener strips. 10x stronger than velcro. Horizontal strips mate with vertical strips allowing easy placement .... full contact would be almost impossible to remove .... it's that strong a hold.

I love my saddlebags no matter the cost. To me they are invaluable. I went normal install with drilled holes. I personally have NEVER found a tape that will hold up in the summer (hot) heat (the glue seems to melt)....and I've tried dozens of tapes. I am not going to take a chance on my $400 camera and other goodies possibly falling off. I KNOW they won't now.

I've hit a couple of bumps in the last few years that were so bad that they knocked my GPS out of the bracket - those situations would concern me if I had expensive items in the saddlebags.

How does that tape come off when you want to sell the bike?? I don't think I'd buy it if I can't get the tape off and have to repaint it - doesn't look very pretty just sitting there without the bags.

BTW. the mounting looks great. Better then the screw up the dealer did to my first install. They did a lot better on the second install.

Just curious, is there any kind of guarantee the tape will not come loose? Do you have a product number?

I hope you have better luck than I have had. Maybe there is or will be a tape that will hold up - science is great. You can be our on the road tester. Keep us updated during the summer.

HDBOB, thanks for the link. That stuff IS great. That's the stuff they include in the box with my I-Pass. I liked it so much I sent away for more strips.
When I read the description about mushroom heads, I knew exactly what it was. I'm not worried about that connection. My distrust is with the sticky glue back of the tape. Like I said I have had problems with every tape I've used with the extreme heat of summer loosening the glue. Maybe this glue is better, but I'm not taking the chance.

Good luck - just keep an eye on it over the summer on really hot days.

I used the same as HDBOB, but I stayed horizontal on all strips...either way works.

I used this method (but I used 4-inch wide strips of the stuff) on both my trikes this past year.

The glue held up with no issues; including a stretch of about 10+ days where the heat index was about 104-106.

Trust me; these things aren't coming off because of heat.

I'm liking the product that HDBOB uses, was wondering if anyone has installed the bags that go on the ultra, road king etc etc by the saddlebags, I know I would have to trim the flaps off that goes around the bars and snaps, just curious if anyone has done this and a pic would be helpful, still deciding what to do or not do anything. I know these bags has just as much room as the saddlebags that harley sells but cheaper.

I know drilling holes would be better than the other stuff, wouldn't have to worry about if falling off down the road, the heat could be a issue on this stuff, sounds like it is not.

Note. I didn't cut the rubber grommet, a little pinch on the backside and they will push out. This way you can save them and if you ever want to mount permanent you have all the parts.

Another thought just crossed my mind. What about theft? A bit quicker to take? The original way would be a real hassle if you were in a hurry, believe me. Even not being in a hurry takes some finesse.

I doubt anyone would steel those bags anyway , but you never know.
