    Default Pro-Action shocks

First chance to ride the Tri since installing the new shocks. Went down same road we always take from Ohio to our Dealer in Indiana. Last half is rough. Before 50 -55 was too fast , shook the crap out of us. Today with the new Pro-Action was like nite & day. Ran 60-65 & nice & smooth no jarring your teeth out. Not a cheap upgrade but if you do long distance riding, not on Interstate's, like we do,worth every penny. Thanks George at Pro-Action for a great shock.

Hey Bill, I've been wanting to get the Pro action shocks for our Tri. Did you install your own and if so do you have a lift or is it possible to do it without a lift?

They are easy to install without a lift. Just jack one side up at a time, do the shock on that side, then repeat on the other side.

    Shock Info HERE.

And here is a thread with photo's of an install, it shows both rear wheels off the ground at the same time....but that is not necesssary-

I did the job myself. Just a floor jack & a bottle jack. If you have a lift kit, I had to loosen the brackets. There is another post on here with great info & pictures. Did another ride yesterday on a really bumpy road & what a great shock.

Just looked up pro-action shocks. Wow, that is an expensive upgrade. Wish I could afford it, because my teeth get rattled out of my head every time I ride it seems like.

Im thinking of getting them also...But I'm also thinking if their that good, Or their perceived that good...Your replacing old shocks with new shocks so they feel good till they get thousands of miles on them..I just recently replaced a front tire, the old one had 20 k on it... The first ride i took with the new tire 'The ride was so much better you would have though i but new shocks on the front..

And i'll be honest when my Tri was new, I don't remember the ride being so rough. Its human nature to get giddy over something new, And not wait to get a few thousand miles on it before reporting how great it is.. Like someone checking their mpg on just one tank of gas...?

    Default What I noticed

After dialing them in, as in there video, the ride is springie, like on a buckboard. When riding over a un even road hump, it is smoother, no more jump up. Gota put miles on them as to get the springs to settle down, hopefully. Around town there ok , but not impressed. On the big road the ride is smooth and no more whoopidos on uneven expansion joints. Cornering has no change. Still smooth and flat.
Will give it time to break in or be on the for sale thread.

I will give them time or maybe get use to them. Gota remember that they are designed for 2 wheelers, and you are not going to copy the ride ! BTW, have not tried 2 up yet

Pro Actions - adjustment video is for adjusting a two wheeler and shows adjustments to only one shock towards the middle of the video.. NOTE - the trike requires both shocks to be adjusted identical not only on the spring tension but the clickers. I found that 2 clicks on the adjusters worked best and took the springie feeling comepletly away. My shocks came set at 5 clicks in clockwise. As said I ended up at 2 clicks in, not 5 and all was great. I bet you will find that 2 or 3 clicks will be much better. Also you can back the spring tension off one even turn at a time on each side and soften the ride up as well. I did not need to do this as my sag was at approx 1 inch with the way the shocks came adjusted.

Our Pro Action shocks Ride great on our 2017 Tri Glide now. All it took was a little fine tuning and test riding.

    Remember,

On the Trike the adjustments have to be the same on each shock. I got this straight from Pro Action concerning the Trikes.

I think all the shocks being used on Trike applications are for a two wheeler. This includes the factory air adjustable rear shocks. Same shocks as used on the two wheeled touring model Harley's.

Well with only 8000 miles on my new Trike, I would say the shocks are like new.. Rode like sh*t from day one. Harley has never had a good air shock & prob. never will.

You hit the nail on the head. After watching the video for adjusting, I called Pro-Action and questioned the fine tuning of one shock only on the Tri-Glide. They said to adjust BOTH shocks on the Tri-Glide. I think they need to update their video to include the Tri-Glide. Best upgrade I have made on my trike!!

    Default Pro-action shocks on TG

ok.. liking the idea of not having to deal with the air ride anymore. and Legend at $1800 vs these $$ wise is a no brainer --HOWEVER -

Can anyone tell me - Since the shocks are not easily accessed on the TG, what do you do when you have 2 up, or 2 up while towing the trailer, or even 1 up towing the trailer - would one adjustment be good enough ?? I have seen no one mention this - either that or my GOOGLE is dam broken - lol!

Here's the PM that I just sent you...I'm posting it here for others to see when they google in the future.

I'm 200, wife is 140, luggage is another 70, tongue weight on our trailer is 35 lbs. I have my shocks adjusted for the best ride when I am 2 up with luggage. When we add the trailer it is a tad softer than ideal, but MUCH better than stock.

When I am one up it is a tad stiffer than ideal, but Much better than stock. If I am going to be doing a lot of 1 up miles I will take the 1 minute to adjust the damping with the lever at the bottom of the shock and that makes it 95% as good a ride as the 2 up riding that I have the pre-load adjusted for.

If you have greater variables in weight and want to be able to adjust the pre-load, then the Bitubos are the way to go. You can mount them upside down and then the collar for adjusting the pre-load is at the bottom of the shocks.

On the Pro-Action shocks, if you want to adjust the pre-load take one tire off at a time and you can reach up in there (without removing the shock) and adjust.

We tested a bunch of different shocks, including the Revo's, the Arnott's, Legends, and a bunch more. They do not give a better ride...it is not as good. The only benefit in an air ride is adjusting ride height easily for large variances in weights. We did not test the SuperShocks, and can't speak to them...don't know anyone running them.

The best for your pocketbook are the Bitubo's, and also easiest for adjusting for large weight variances.
