    Default Brake pedal

    I don't like the pedal set high and when I move it down one tooth it is the low, what is a guy to do?

    Howard:

    I just recently went through the same rear brake adjustment issue on my 2009 Goldwing.

    There is a way to make subtle brake pedal height adjustments behind the right hand side cover. If other replies do not provide enough information and pictures, I will be glad to talk you through the procedure. Just send me a PM with a contact number. I do not have any photos. All that is needed are 10mm and 12mm wrenches.

    Whenever a brake pedal adjustment is made through this method, the cruise/brake light pressure plate may also have to be adjusted.

    Is your pedal OEM, or aftermarket, or aftermarket with a rubber step on it, or OEM with a rubber step on it ???

    Is your foot peg/step OEM or aftermarket ???

    Whatever pedal you have, below is a picture of how it should be adjusted in reference to the frame. Notice that the back edge of the pedal is parallel to the frame. Anything other then that may cause less then full pedal movement in an emergency situation. This is import for 2 reasons. If brake fluid loss were to occur, one may need a full pedal stroke to stop, since it might be ones last attempt at stopping. Also, when manually bleeding brakes during a service, full pedal strokes makes the job easier. Often, an incorrectly adjusted pedal, will causes it to hit the frame and not allowing for full movement.

    Howard, the brake pedal height adjustments are easier to explain and will make more sense over the phone while you are looking at your trike with the right side cover removed. Have a set of metric box end wrenches handy and a small flash light.

    Also, do you have the stock brake pedal or an after market brake pedal?

    Not David but hopefully this will answer your question. To adjust the switch plate, loosen the 2 screws shown in the circle and slide the plate up/down to make your adjustment. Honda says that the brake lights should come on when the "toe" of the lever is moved from it's neutral position downward between 0.02-0.06".

    FYI ... using any screwdriver bit other then a JIS may strip the screw heads.

    Thanks to all of you, the guys and gals on this site is amazing and thanks for all your help. I fixed the brake pedal and going to adjust the light switch, thanks again.
