Default Real Movie Stars, Past Years

These were not only movie stars, they were real stars. Not like most of the worthless Hollywood bunch of today that all they can do is run their mouths and say nothing.

Some of you may be too young to remember this, so please take a moment to review.

In contrast to the ideals, opinions and feelings of today's "Hollywonk," the real actors of yester-year loved the United States. They had both class and integrity. With the advent of World War II many of our actors went to fight rather than stand and rant against this country we all love.

They gave up their wealth, position and fame to become service men & women, many as simple "enlisted men".

This page lists but a few, but from this group of only 18 men came over 70 medals in honor of their valor, spanning from Bronze Stars, Silver Stars, Distinguish Service Cross', Purple Hearts and one Congressional Medal of Honor.

So remember; while the Entertainers of today have been in all of the news media lately I would like to remind the people of what the entertainers of 1943 were doing.

Most of these brave men have since passed on.

    "Real Hollywood Heroes"

David Niven was a Sandhurst graduate and Lt. Colonel of the British Commandos in Normandy.

James Stewart Entered the Army Air Force as a private and worked his way to the rank of Colonel. During World War II, Stewart served as a bomber pilot, his service record crediting him with leading more than 20 missions over Germany, and taking part in hundreds of air strikes during his tour of duty.
Stewart earned the Air Medal, the Distinguished Flying Cross, France's Croix de Guerre, and 7 Battle Stars during World War II. In peace time, Stewart continued to be an active member of the Air Force as a reservist, reaching the rank of Brigadier General before retiring in the late 1950s.

Clark Gable (Mega-Movie Star when war broke out) Although he was beyond the draft age at the time the U.S. entered WW II, Clark Gable enlisted as a private in the AAF on Aug. 12, 1942 at Los Angeles
He attended the Officers' Candidate School at Miami Beach, Fla. and graduated as a second lieutenant on Oct. 28, 1942.
He then attended aerial gunnery school and in Feb. 1943 he was assigned to the 351st Bomb Group at Polebrook where flew operational missions over Europe in B-17s.
Capt. Gable returned to the U.S. in Oct. 1943 and was relieved from active duty as a major on Jun. 12, 1944 at his own request, since he was over-age for combat.

Charlton Heston was an Army Air Corps Sergeant in Kodiak.

Ernest Borgnine was a U. S. Navy Gunners Mate 1935-1945.

Charles Bronson was a tail gunner in the Army Air Corps, more specifically on B-29's in the 20th Air Force out of Guam, Tinian, and Saipan

    George C. Scott was a decorated U. S. Marine.

Eddie Albert (Green Acres TV) was awarded a Bronze Star for his heroic action as a U. S. Naval officer aiding Marines at the horrific battle on the island of Tarawa in the Pacific Nov. 1943.

Lee Marvin was a U.S. Marine on Saipan during the Marianas campaign when he was
    wounded earning the Purple Heart.

John Russell: In 1942, he enlisted in the Marine Corps where he received a battlefield commission and was wounded and highly decorated for valor at Guadalcanal

Tyrone Power (an established movie star when Pearl Harbor was bombed) joined the
U.S. Marines, was a pilot flying supplies into, and wounded Marines out of, Iwo Jima and Okinawa.

Audie Murphy, little 5'5" tall 110 pound guy from Texas who played cowboy parts:
Most Decorated serviceman of WWII and earned: Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, 2 Silver Star Medals, Legion of Merit, 2 Bronze Star Medals with "V", 2 Purple Hearts, U.S. Army Outstanding Civilian Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, 2 Distinguished Unit Emblems, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with One Silver Star, Four Bronze Service Stars (representing nine campaigns) and one Bronze Arrowhead (representing assault landing at Sicily and Southern France) World War II Victory Medal Army of Occupation Medal with Germany Clasp, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar, Expert Badge with Bayonet Bar, French Fourragere in Colors of the Croix de Guerre, French Legion of Honor, Grade of Chevalier, French Croix de Guerre With Silver Star, French Croix de Guerre with Palm, Medal of Liberated France, Belgian Croix de Guerre 1940 Palm.

So how do you feel the real heroes of the silver screen acted when compared to the hollywonks today who spew out anti-American drivel as they bite the hand that feeds them? Can you imagine these stars of yester-year saying they hate our flag, making anti-war speeches, marching in anti-American parades and saying they hate our president?

I thought not, neither did I!

Good post Sullly. I refuse to watch the oscars tonight to see all these liberal cry babies that make millions living in a fantasy world and wouldn't lift a finger to help their country.

    Let's contrast 1943 with today...

In 1943, we had clearly defined enemies, nations aligned with the "Axis," whereas we were aligned with the "Allies." The "good guys" and "bad guuys" were clearly defined, and wore different uniforms. Also, being an American was something to live up to. We were the defenders of democracy.

Now, we are fighting an ideology, where the division between "good guy" and "bad guy" is a blurred line at best, not based on nationality or uniform, and being an American is something to live down in the international community. We are seen as the greatest threat to world peace, and rightfully so, whether we like it or not.

Don't get me wrong, I am proud to be American, but I understand the international criticism aimed our way...we meddle where we don't belong. We think we are going to fix a conflict that's been going on for a dozen centuries in a few years? We need to rethink our position...we cannot appoint ourselves police of the world, unless we want to bankrupt ourselves and make more enemies, without better international support. Granted, the international community seems to turn a blind eye to the problem, but does that give us the right to wage war wherever we want?

I am highly critical of out policies...of our denial of science, of many things. A good patriot does not "love it or leave it" but instead, acknowledges the problems and tries to address them.

So, before we label criticism of our policies as "unpatriotic"...we should look at our own history, to our founding fathers, who criticized that which wasn't working, and brought about improvements.

I completely disagree. We remain allied with the good guys and Americans remain something to live up to no matter what you've been reading from Globalist outlets. The absent of enemy uniform is a tactic to reinforce the idea that there is a small division from the 1.9 billion Muslims making up 23 percent of world population that will surpass Christianity in this century. That is a huge problem when the enemy is considered a small fraction of the 1.9 billion infiltrating the Western Alliances. History might just indicate that many are wrong viewing the previous centuries.

We as Americans are the mighty, who have and still do, stand in the way of the most current evil encompassing the planet. The opposite of a threat to peace. We are and have been the cornerstone of peace throughout our history. When we fall because of the lack of vigilance, projected strength, and understanding we become the prey and that is what has happened over the last eight years with a supposedly pacifist leader weakening our long time position in the world, and at home. He has allowed Russia, Iran, China, Korea, as well as the Muslim Nations of the world to become more brazen increasing the threat to peace and prevention of mass destruction.

I understand what you've said and have no doubt that you are a proud American, but the international criticism aimed our way is natural for the most powerful Nation on Earth, and our leaders are rethinking our position now that the spoiler has been removed. It has never been about fixing. That is something they must do themselves and centuries say they have no desire in doing so containment has always been the challenge until major mistakes were mad by overly anxious decision making.

Patriot has become subjective rather than objective over time. All policies are highly scrutinized as they should be. I have done so incessantly for the previous 45 years and intensified that effort the past 12.

I will assume that your denial statement of science is largely directed toward the global warming issue, realizing that it isn't the only one. I've said several times in various threads I'm a pragmatic thinker so denial is not in my nature. The sequence of success is my priority. The far more damaging to the planets climate are the enemies that have been brazened by Obama's policies and who have extremely large populations compared to the 320 million of our Nation, you are correct, it is something we are unable to correct, but we damn sure better be policing. That depends on your perspective of the terms.

I'm here to sternly state that the climate is the least of our enemy concerns. Priorities are a must in the development of success and even though it may been seen the most important presently, it is not should be on the top of the list it would be relatively fruitless at this juncture. Either way, one is going to win over the other, and I shouldn't need to explain why, because it should be obvious. There is more than enough denial from all sectors of our society.

The bully will always find you on the playground and if you don't take a stand you'll continue to be his bitch. That is a general remark, not personal, as he has been allowed to infiltrate our freedom of a pleasantly habitable sanctuary, which has never been perfect and never will be and never a claim of mine. Showing respect for your opinion it will be necessary for us to agree to disagree. For these issues and opinions to be hashed out in detail would take volumes, therefore, unrealistic for this venue. I enjoyed reading your take on the particular issues.

Let's not forget Matthew (as Festus called him) or Mr. Dillon (from Chester) or known as Marshall Dillon by the townspeople.
One of my favorites James Arness wounded in WWll.
He carried a limp for many years although noone noticed much in the show as compared to Chester's limp.

Off topic.....I wonder what Miss Kitty called him!!!
