Hello from the Wheelchair guy in Minnesota...

Hello! A few short months from now I will be the proud owner of a Laguna Orange 2017 Freewheeler, and I can't wait. An accident on my cruiser back in May of 2009 put me in a wheelchair and I have been dreaming about the day when I would get back on a bike...finally this summer it will happen.

This forum seems to be a wealth of knowledge about Trikes and the Freewheeler specifically, I appreciate you all taking the time to post. I know a 20 inch wind shield, passenger backrest and luggage rack (strap my 10lb titanium wheelchair to) will happen out of the gate, but I am wondering what other mods you all recommend. Seems like folks like the bumper as well and of course I am going to get some slip ons.

Is that something I should do right away, or give it a summer? I have not heard them live, but the CFR's sound great on all the videos online, do they fit the Freewheeler?

Welcome, glad you joined us! My signature lists the changes I've made (so far) to mine. I added the rear bumper when the salesman told me a different Freewheeler was damaged in the showroom when it was being moved. I love mine, enjoy yours!

Welcome from Texas. I have to back out of my garage up to a fence so I had the rear bumper installed before my Freewheeler left the dealership.

I started reading the Freewheeler forum and found things I really needed, like DK Customs floorboard extenders, JES wind deflectors, Mustang seat with riders backrest and a few other things. It's all about what works for you.

Welcome to TT. Glad you will be able to ride again. That is fantastic. My suggestion would be to leave the stock muffler cans on for a bit. As the packing settles, they will start getting louder. My other suggestion would be a trailer hitch mount if one is made for the freewheeler. I have seen wheelchair carriers designed to mount to the hitch tongue.

I'm @ 100 miles south of you. The FLRT sounds great with the stock slip-ons. Bumper is a must IMO. Since you will be putting a wheelchair on yours the luggage rack is something you would want.

You should be pretty happy with your choice of new ride. The new engine has gotten good reviews in the media, and hopefully the real world as well.

Unfortunately HD MoCo doesn't offer any adaptive equipment for their vehicles for those of us dealing with mobility issues.
They simply don't want the liability issues, or so I was told by a friendly but non supportive person at the company hotline a few years back.

Don't let that discourage you, as there are many aftermarket devices out there that can be fitted to your ride to get you riding again.

If you can't find the answers to your questions regarding the new toy, don't hesitate to ask.
