LED TAIL lights ?

After reading this thread on LED tail lights I decided to try the ones from Walmart. I tried both the red ones and the white ones. The red ones had a more truer red color while the white ones had a slight orange color to them (both through the tail light lens). For me (and to my eyes) both were about the same brightness as the stock light bulb for the running light portion. As for the brake/turn function, neither were anywhere close to the stock bulb in brightness. My test was with a stock bulb in one tail light and an LED in the other so I could compare side by side. Trike was in the garage while I stood back about 30' on the driveway on an overcast day to get the same view someone following me would get while my wife activated the brakes and turn signals. I won't use these because of the lower light output for the brake/turn portion which is much too important to me. Walmart is good on returns so I'll take these back and look for something else. I too was not happy with the lights. Stock bulbs seem brighter, so I will stay with stock. Won't spend the money for the HD lights, as the back end is bright enuff. I did add the light I bought from Cycle Gear. They flash when I hit the brakes. So far after them being on two different bikes and now on the trike, cars stop at least three car lengths away for the back end. Total cost about 20.00. Guess if it ain't broke don't fix it. I used double sticky tape and put them under the tour box.

I have the BrightAss Lights (BAL-1R). They have three brightness settings and numerous patterns for braking. I have mine on "medium" and they are super bright. My braking is set at three flashes, then solid. Also, they are plug and play so easy to install.

I too have BrightAss Lights and love them. I was able to install them by myself. I am not mechanical at all.

Hi. Does anyone know if I can replace my stock break light bulbs on 2014 Tri Glide with LED's ? Do they make just a push in blub or is it something that was to be completely re wired . I just want a bit more break light back there while riding at night. Thanks for any help on this.. Rick

I've found the replacement bulbs at auto parts stores and well equipped truck stops and truck chrome shops - NOT Love's, Pilot, Petro, Truckstops of America, or any other chain.

They will work but don't seem as bright as the filament bulbs. Also if they are not canbus compatible they won't work worth squat.

In my opinion the standard 1157/2057 Are bright enough, Inexpensive and best they are available everywhere... At least on my 11 Tri...

Having a '16 with the Canbus electricals, I tried the can bus compatible push in bulbs. They are a poor substitute. Nowhere near as bright as the OE filament bulbs. So I bit the bullet and ordered the matching H-D led taillights w/o the license plate window. Expensive ? Yeah. They are a perfect match for the lightbar in the tour pack so I consider the money well spent. I also purchased the pnp strobe/flashing, inline kits from Custom Dynamics. Being solid state, they will last longer than the life of the trike. When I hit the brake, the dance they do is eye catching. The desired effect !

I have the Radiantz LED replacement units and love them.....very bright. Then added a 8" Smoked {as the bike is black} LED strip that only comes on with the brakes and flashes to solid. Works for me....was able to install everything myself {with the help of people here on the LED strip. Bulbs.....eh's a no good....jc

You may want to consider Kuryakyn's Taillight Conversion. They are plug and play.

I'm pretty well lit up out back. There is no one who has their eyes open that will not see me if I put on a blinker or brake light. Photo below are just the running lights. All the lights are Run-Brake-Turn enabled.





There is some expense involved...but I am all about "SEE & BE SEEN", it is a lot less expensive than getting hit.
