    Default J&S Trike Lift "Wowser"

All I can start off saying is what Snagglepuss said "Heavens to Murgatroyd"! (You old duffers will understand the time that we were hearing these Hanna/Barbara utterings).

I assembled my J&S Trike Lift yesterday and this morning, carefully, after reading the lifting instructions, proceeded to lift my 1200 pound 2017 Tri Glide Ultra about 3 feet off the ground. The trike was quite stable except if I introduced some lateral force on the right rear muffler which caused some very minor oscillations. How many of us have been able to get relatively painless, unfettered access to our Tri Glides underside? Not many unless you own a special trike lift or the J&S trike lift.

At first, I began to think that I had purchased a solution looking for a problem until I was able to get essentially unfettered access to the underside of this low-slung trike. After cleaning the inside/outside of the rear wheels and the front wheel along with the mufflers and muffler covers with great ease, I discovered that I am quite glad that I purchased this behemoth lift to raise my behemoth trike off of the ground.

To say that I was both impressed and intimidated at the same time would be an understatement. This is the newly re-engineered J&S lift that was specifically designed to be backward compatible with older Tri Glides and the new 2017 which presented J&S with the challenge of producing a lift that would accommodate the new muffler system that was changed with the M8-engined TGU's.

I will post about 7 pics of this very strange occurrence that happened in my shop this morning.

    Default 18", not 36"

Ooops, It looked like 3' to me but in fact, the lift takes the trike up 18" off the floor. I think J&S is currently in Daytona at Bike Week so I will have to wait to get some questions answered in terms of stability issues if I want to remove say a front or rear tire? I don't know the answer to this question yet so will have to be in suspense for likely about 10 days until I see if this is a viable option. The M8-engined Tri Glide is weighted differently than the TC103-engined machines and I need to get some definitive feedback from the inventor before I go and remove parts

I know I love mine, I liked the way you put your under on the shifter side, mine goes in from the rear brake side, I prefer the other way liked yours, but I will deal with it.

I must say you have a very clean garage, wished mine looked that good, guess with a little worked it would, looks like your floor is painted, mine isn't and sometimes wish I would have sealed and painted it, but now it is not going to happen.

Enjoy that lift, IMHO it is the best out there for trikes.

    All for now Trampas

Trampas, With the new design, J&S specifies that the lift come in from the left side of the trike. The clearances are unbelievably tight and they really had to measure things carefully to get this newly designed lift to fit in between all of the hardparts. I do like an epoxy floor. It makes wiping up spills other than gas a cinch. A gas leak on an old Shovelhead I had necessitated the redo of the floor because there was about a 3 foot diameter elimination of my last coating with about a 1.5 gallon gas spill. I built a second set of garages and was able to convince my wife to park her car in the Carriage House rather than the main garage that is insulated with 3" of Icynene in the 2x6 walls. I keep my trikes and race car in the main garage.

The J&S Jack Trike Lift is a great tool. I really like my J&S Trike lift. I ordered the 2017 retrofit arm assembly for mine and it works great on my 2017. It also worked well on our 2015, a must have for the Trike.

    A quick note,

The older version jack for the 2016 and earlier Trikes works on the 2017. It just takes a little more work to get it in the right position. The reason why I ordered the retrofit kit for the 2017 Trike models.

Just talked with Steve who is the "S" in J&S. "J" is his brother. Steve advised that the trike lift kit that is now universal for all HD trikes and fits the 2017 M8's is designed such than you can remove any wheel without fear of balance issues. I thought about the fact that if I could not take a wheel off that it would be less useful. He said that the newly patented part designed for the HD 2017 trikes was tested with an M8-engined trike and it was determined that weight and balance issues were adequately addressed such that you can use the lift for wheel/tire work as well as other things like brakes, etc. Bill G., you were an early adopter and so have had a lot of good use with your J&S trike lift. I also own the two-wheel version of the J&S jack for my HD Road King and also used it on a 2012 Road Glide with absolute confidence in its stability characteristics. Also appreciate that the products are made in the USA which means a lot and helps employ Wisconsonites aka Americans!

I bought mine a few years ago for my 2012 and then my 2014 just so I could switch my wheel/tire from the winter set to the summer set and back again.

Initially I had a problem with the cable end which broke because I used a little more elbow grease then I should have. They sent a repair kit right away. The other problem is on going and that is getting the raised section to lift because, as was said earlier, it is an extremely tight fit between the belt and the exhaust.

The last time I used it the raised section wouldn't come back down. Had to use a hammer and a pipe to knock it down.

Still better then raising one wheel at a time.

Don't hold me to this I can not remember the exact cost off the top of my head. If I recall correctly it was around $75 including shipping both ways, (let me explain). They sent me a shipping label. I then boxed up the handle cables and the one original lifting rail piece (they re-use your cables). I sent it all to them and they sent me back a new complete set up all adjusted to work correctly that included a new lifting rail piece ready to go. It was all very easy to remove and re-install after I got the new parts back.

You have to contact them by phone that's what I did. Then they will set you up and explain what to send them along with the cost for round trip shipping to your area.

    Hope this helps,

    Ride Safe,

    Bill G

I decided to buy the Redline table lift. Yes,your access to some parts of the underside is not as good as those "bike lift" type lifts, but it's better for other parts. I like the stability of the table lift. It goes up plenty high, until the table is about 4 feet or so. And you can set the drain pan right there under the drain plug. Sure is nice working standing up...

I knew going in that if I got this lift, I wouldn't be parking my car in there any more, but Mama still can park her car inside. That's all that matters, right?

Yes that's a hammer painted on the floor. she painted a few different tools all around just for fun...

Very nice set up... I think there is a place for both and both options have plus or minus to there use and benefit specific to each type of lift. A guy has to choose based on his needs and or cost or room for the Redline type table lift or the J&S lift jack. Heck I vote to just have both... Lol

If you catch yourself trying to pick up that hammer and use it more than once I would get some paint remover.... Just kidding ya a little as said very nice set up

No, it was around $1500, IIRR the shipping was only a couple hundred. I picked it up from the trucking company dock, about an hour away. Crate was exactly as long as my pick-up bed, I was able to close the gate.

They loaded it with forklift, when I got home, I opened the crate in my truck and took the pieces out one by one. I just slid the big base piece to the back of truck and let one end down then got help to lower the other end to the ground. Wasn't too bad.

    Bob,

I have always been able to remove one wheel or both without any issues what so ever. Both on the older J&S jack on our 2015 model as well as the newer retro-fit part added to my jack for the 2017 models.

J&S Retro-fitted for 2017 models jack pic below. Also the jack will still work great on older models as well. Two bolts and about 3 minutes and I had the retro-fit part on my older jack.

    Ride Safe,

    Bill G
