Default Needed upgrades on my 17 Tri Glide

Yesterday the wife and I set out for a ride. After a 350 mile day with 80 degree temps and winds at a steady 15 with gusts 25 plus a few things are on the list.Gutted head pipe, air cleaner and tune. And better rear suspension, the stock air shocks are bleeding off. My lift kit is going on this week and I have ordered the Long Ride 7 inch ultra windshield.

Has anyone tried the Corvette air shock conversion, with the added weight of the trike my thinking is they may be an alternative, that and I have a set hanging on the wall. Don't mind a little work to change them out.The M8 has lots of power just need to get rid of some heat,at 70 mph and a stiff side wind from the left both of our right legs were feeling some extra heat on them.

    Cool

I also have a 2017 Tri and I have no heat issues in the stock configuration and it is warm here in Fla. also 80s. My longest ride has only been 80 miles so far with the bride and it has been windy also but neither of us has had any problem with the heat from the bike. Doc

Never heard of the corvette convertion

changed mine to pro-action. The ride is definitely different, only complaint I have is the rebound is more than I like. Been playing with the dampening, but to no avail

The rebound on the OEM shocks were much better.

Being I ride 1up 95% , waiting for a passenger to show up, b4 coming to a liking conclusion.

    Just somthing to consider

It is a cheaper alternative to expensive air ride.

2017 with gutted head pipe = no warranty (blame the EPA). It takes a good 5k miles to get the engine broken in. Heat will be less and less.

If you really hate the shocks you might try a few things first with them:

Remove, drain and replace with 10 - 11 oz of new 10 weight shock oil.

Add a longer coil of air line to the fill valve. (more line = more volume)

EZ-Air makes checking and filling shocks very easy.

    https://wheeldock.com/products/ez-ai...nt=26288938307

22 psi in rear tires is what we like. 38 - 40 psi in stock shocks.

dkcustoms sells several shock upgrades. I have read about the mid-60s vette air shock change. You will have to make up custom shock bushings for mounting.

If the DOT would do their job and make smooth roads owners of hard tails and TriGlides would be much happier.

The issue is that the shocks are bleeding off,had 35 pounds of air last weekend when we returned yesterday there was only 5 lbs.You can buy the correct bushings on Amazon.

And as far as the warranty,i think that the Magnson Moss act states that if there is a failure the manufacture must prove that the part installed is what caused the failure.

Are you using a zero loss air fill pump? Pretty much impossible to get it right without one. The lines hold a very limited mount of air. I use the H-D pump 54630-03A. It could also be just the line connections need re-seated and or tightening of fittings.

Mine will loose some air .... but not 30 pounds over night.

Default Pro Action rear shocks with a lift work great

I can highly recommend the Pro Action shocks on a Tri Glide.

I installed a set of Pro Action rear shocks on our 2017 Tri Glide. I also installed the 1" 1-2 lift brackets from a different vendor specifically designed for the 2017 Tri Glides (read on).

The Pro Action shocks are superb. They worked great with stock Harley shock brackets but worked way better with the rear 1" 1-2 lift brackets specifically for a 2017 model trike installed.

The 1" lift brackets ( 1-2 brackets ) I installed instead of the normal 1.25" lift brackets normally used on previous year trikes gave me 1 1/8" lift at the muffler tips verses the 1 3/8" given at the muffler tips by 1 25" lift brackets.

The 1" 1-2 lift brackets also gave me the option of a more rearward angle shock mounting position option. Pro Action recommends the more rear angle shock mount position for better shock function.( This angle is simular to the popular 1.25" comfort lift brackets that are on the market) I tried the 1.25" Comfort Lift brackets on our 2017 trike first but the clearances were to close with the clearance between the swing arm and the exhaust header weld behind the cat for my taste. (This is a common issue on 2017 model trikes when using the common 1.25" lift brackets for previous year trikes).

Some folks say the tight clearance on the 2017 are only one off issues with a 2017 trike now and then or they say to grind the weld down. I say this info is wrong and the issue is more common than has been told and most do not want to grind the weld down on the exhaust header. The 1" lift brackets worked way better than the 1.25" lift brackets did on our 2017 Tri Glide no clearance issues now. Before with the 1.25" lift brackets installed even with the weld polished or ground down on our 2017 the swing arm was almost touching the header with the trike on the ground.

(Summery from my experience here with the 2017 Tri Glide)

These 1" lift brackets were made specifically for the 2017 model trikes (article on venders web page explaining this). The 1" lift takes into consideration the header and swing arm clearance issues known on 2017 models. I had this issue with our 2017 trike. Also a lift will lighten the steering on your trike a big secondary benefit. To me the steering benefit is worth getting the lift by itself.

Now with the Pro Action shocks and the 1" 1-2 lift brackets the Ride on our 2017 Tri Glide is just awesome and the trike floats over bumps, rides like a Cadillac and handles great. Of course you got to get the shocks dialed in with the correct spring load and clicker or rebound adjustment. After that the shocks are bomb. and well worth every dime spent. The is best mod we have done to our trike to date for all out comfort and handling.

Our 2017 Tri Glide now sits nice and level and steers great and as said the ride is awesome with the Pro Action shocks installed and no clearance issues with the swing arm and exhaust common on 2017 models with 1.25" lifts installed.

    Ride Safe,

    Bill G

Unless you are replacing your rear shocks immediately, why not just make a dealership fix the air leak under warranty?
