I can still remember the intense feel of the pounding drum beats as a marching band approached and then slowly moved on.
Yes, times have certainly changed.
One of my favorite events starts in June, Drum Corp International.
The music and the pageantry, its awesome. I remember when I was young and participate in marching music and had a blast and my parents attended numerous events. Back then it wasn't as spectacular as it is now. It used to be parent carpools, station wagon and van caravans to events. Buy your own instruments, I still wish i had some of the old marching snare drums I had, as they are worth money. Times have changed.

DCI is a great activity... both my daughters have been part of DCI.
That's wonderful. I give them credit they work very hard to produce those shows, they are really intense compared to performances in the 1970 and 80s. My high school marching band had the marching 'D' formation during halftime back in the 70's . A couple of nights ago I looked at videos of the high school marching band and they are way passed the big 'D' of yesterday. They now compete in competitions, didn't do that years ago. I belonged to many different types of marching units over the years from fife and drum to drum and bugle corps.
Its a wonderful experience and something you never forget. When I watch these performances they bring back memories of when I participated many years ago.
