Here's a stupid question....I know there's an indicator light on the dash for ABS, but is it only lit when you press the brake pedal?

Actually, the only time it should light is after you turn the key to the on position. It will stay lit until you reach 6+ mph then it go out. If it stays on once above 6mph, or comes on, or begins flashing while riding, the system has detected a fault, and will default the brake system to conventional brakes.
Please keep in mind that anytime I share or give advice about a motorcycle, unless I state otherwise, I am always referring to GL1800's and no other.
Looking at this picture, I can't tell if that's the ABS light that's on or not. Can anyone else?
I should mention that the reason I'm asking is I'm thinking of buying this one. It's an 05 with a Hannigan kit, and I thought ABS was standard on these bikes, but now I'm wondering if that was an option that the first owner didn't bother with.

Year would help ???
However, I believe your picture is of a GL1800 year 2001-05, and was originally intended to be sold in the USA (a USA version of a GL1800). If so, that is an oil light you are looking at. It appears that Wing was not ABS equipped. The ABS light would be to the right of the FI light.
The oil light should go out 1-2 secs after startup.
When buying a new 2001-05 GL1800, other then choosing color, ABS was the only option. Back then, if the Wing was ABS equipped, most trike kits did not offer a matching ABS rear braking system. So the installer had to disable the bike's ABS system thus converting it to a conventional system. Today, I believe that most trike companies offer a matching rear ABS braking system for ABS equipped Wings.

Go Girl! If you get it, you will love it. Do you have a good tuner that knows Hannigan?
From what I read, 2005 ABS was an option, so you may check with owner to see if it has it.
Don't know about motorcycles, but your VIN # should tell what it was built to, I know cars you can. You may have to go to a Honda dealer.
Don't know if Hannigan has any data on that specific GL 1800 built that year if you give them your Vin#.
Good luck!

Nice ... I had a co-rider customer who turned into a rider when she got her own GL1800 trike. When I asked her how she liked it, she said "I feel so empowered" !!! I now have an equal voice in where we go, what route we take, and when we leave."
When I asked her about the difference in a riders climate compared to being a co-rider, she became "angry" and said that she never knew how bad her climate was compared to her husbands. And then she said ... "I finally have my own place to carry all my own sh*t and my own gear."

Cheri, what a great looking ride! You are not going to believe what you can bring to the Americade in those trunks! You also have a hitch to pull anything you want, like my traveling "bar", as they call it at the New England Gathering. 😝😝😜😜 LOL
Cant wait to see you there.
I'll give you a hint, do and keep records of all your maintainace on your Hannigan kit and it will last forever. Make sure your maintainace people are trained by Hannigan, as they know the ins and outs of the kit. Mine are great. Need help, email me.
See you soon!
