Shift linkage

How many have replaced their stock linkage with something else, been thinking about it, did it on my 1997 FXSTC back in 1998, my 2002 Road King still has the stock setup.

The linkage on my 11Tri-Glide is stock... Once i had to put a new alien bolt on the shift lever rod when the linkage got a little too sloppy.. Otherwise its as tight as a drum...

I replaced the long linkage rod with the H-D Buckshot with heim joints. My opinion is that it took a lot of the slop out and won't let me down. All pinch bolts have been removed and loctited.

Oh it would, I got all the slop out with new bolts , And check them regularly, Like i do with the two top engine bolts 'New ones there too [Non Harley full thread]...Interesting though, When ever i'm at a Harley Dealer i reach down and shake the linkage rods on the new Tri-Glides, And just about every one has some degree of slop in them...Whereas mine is drum tight..

I run DK Shift linkage on my bikes/Trike. Made in the USA and comes with Heim Joints. No slop and a better look.

The inexpensive way to get the stock linkage nice and smooth, with no slop is to replace the factory ends with Heim Joints.

You can usually find them at a hardware store, or we have them HERE.

It seems the factory ones don't fail as much as they used to, but I still don't trust their style linkage ends. Seen way too many fail over the years, leaving the rider unable to shift while away from home without the use of a zip tie.

Well I went and bought the HD linkage in black with the slots and the HD logo in the middle, went back the next day and bought freeway pegs, the shift arms and the pegs all in black, it is called the edge series, matches the linkage really good, little more money but what the heck, they have brake pedal and the pad to match, which they didn't have on hand but decided this was enough money spent for right now, maybe later on down the road but you can only look at one side at a time, LOL

P.S. I said my next bike I wouldn't put to much money in it since I put a ton of crap and chrome on the other 2 bikes, looks like I'm going down that road again

I, and I'm sure the most of us have gone that same road. Probably spent more on my current ride than any other (you'd think age would make us smarter) BUT boy that crap looks GOOD.........ride safe 'ole timers......
