reverse not as powerful as I thought

Yesterday I tried backing my trike (2010 Honda Goldwing) up a ramp into a trailer, and the reverse gear was not powerful enough to back up a ramp....Is this normal? or a default with my reverse???

I'm traveling a few thousand miles, and don't have time to ride this bike all those miles so today I'm towing it, along with four other bikes.

Anyway how much power do you have when in reverse gear??

I don't know about the reverse on the Hondas, But the electric reverse motor on my Tri-Glide was useless backing up a ramp.....

Sorry to say but its quite normal. I have a 2015 G.W. and the reverse is very slow, and not a lot of power. When ever I park, I try to put the trike in a position to where I don't have to use it but just for a short distance. The reverse is my only complaint. I have test road new Harley trikes, and their reverse is about the same. Go figure..

I've found that backing up a steep incline, such as ramps for service, is easier IF I put the trike in reverse, then walk beside it going up the ramp. LOL, relieving it of that extra 250# makes a lot of difference on mine.

I store my trike in my shop which has a slight step up in the door way. The first time I tried to back up that step it wouldn't do it. I was disappointed.

Ok folks thank you for your replys....I feel better knowing it's not just my bike with a problem...

We did get the trike into the trailer, yesterday along with the other four bikes (all others were two wheelers) all strapped down good and tight, and away we go to the tail of the Dragon Friday 16th

You have to remember the electric reverse is Just an assist reverse not a reverse! 📞

It is amazing how easy a trike pushes and is to move around. No worry about balancing it while doing so either.

The Goldwing reverse on a trike is still the same as on it when it was a 2 wheeler. It is designed to help in walking the bike to the rear on mostly flat ground, not up hill or to drive in reverse like a car. It is expected that 2 wheel 'Wings get parked like a "normal" bike - nose uphill, back to the curb, etc. It is best to park a trike the same way.

When I had my 1500 se 2 wheel it could back over a 4x4 equivalent ramp. My 1800 RS trike I doubt would do the same.

As soon as I hit a slight rise in the concrete of my driveway. The trike stops. Reverse is pretty weak in Hondas.

Keep this in mind. Reverse was for a two wheeler meant to be walked back.
