    Default Mobil Mini Air Compressors

Looking for hands-on experience and reviews on this item or one similar:

Mini air compressor called "Tire Top Off" (tire inflator with LED light).

It plugs into the 12V connection on the bike.

Has anyone had actual experience with this particular brand - good or bad?

Have you had actual experience with a different brand that might be more efficient or reliable?

This one is brand-new in the box - just wondering if it is something that could be relied on in case of a low tire or flat... we've had it for probably 4 or more years - carrying it around on the trikes.

    Thanks!

    Carla,

I Googled "Tire Top Off" and found one on Amazon sold under the Slime Brand. Is that the one you were looking at? The Amazon review on the unit you mentioned has a 3 star rating with with 76 customer reviews and produces 50 lbs of pressure. It sells new for $12.99 AMAZON 50

This one sold on Amazon under the AAA Auto Brand is less than $3 more but has 4 stars with 1360 customer reviews and goes up to 300 lbs of pressure. It sells for $15.77 AMAZON 300

Not that you will use 300 lbs of pressure, but it means it will inflate your tire much quicker and easier and put less strain on the tiny motor of the first unit.

edit: Just read the full descriptions of both and need to add: The size of the Slime Brand is smaller if that is an issue. That said, the Slime unit might work fine for your needs.

You're welcome Carla. Maybe someone will chime in who has used the one you are talking about and can give you a review. The reviews were not bad for the smaller one and it is mighty compact. I think you've got the right idea to buy one for travel.

edit yet again (sorry I will read all the particulars before I post a review next time):

41% of Amazon customers rated it a 1 star. I might reconsider buying this one Carla.

    Default Alternate "Air" Solution

..I decided to forego the mini air compressor idea after reading that it could very possibly blow a fuse on the bike while using it.

    ..DRAT!

..Don't need another problem while trying to solve one problem.

..Decided to order the Stop & Go Tire Plug Kit Plus CO2 Canisters - Model #1001.

..Ride-On will stop the leak in the crest of the tread but if the puncture is in the sidewall the Ride-On will not help, according to their website.

..I talked with Bill at Stop & Go (1-815-455-9080) who told me that the 4 canisters supplied with the kit will not fill the motorcycle tire all the way - that each canister will only give about 7 pounds each and to be sure and fill the tire slowly or you would waste CO2 at the valve stem due to the tiny hole at the end of the canister can't output too quickly.

..He also suggested that his extra canisters were a little pricey and that sources found elsewhere on the internet (or in a bicycle shop) would be more cost effective for extras.

..Their video looked pretty simple so I think I can handle it...might ask to practice on the neighbor's tire he just took off his bike due to being worn out.

    ..Now to order extra canisters...

..All this - JUST IN CASE of a flat on the road -----never had one but there's always the first time and it would sure wreck the trip if I had to call the emergency roadside service. First of all they would have to find me....gee, maybe next I need one of those GPS locator transponder thingies that hikers use.....hhhmmmmm.....

I Have the progressive suspension Co2 plug kit, And i had to use it only only once, And that was in 2003?...Used all 4 canisters, And that was enough to get me home..About 10 miles...I haven't needed it since....And I've been carrying it in the last 7 bikes/trikes i had....You can get extra canisters at Wall mart's bicycle dept...One thing to remember every year to replace the tire cement/glue it will 'even though its in a sealed tube get hard... I also carry [The last year or so] a mini compressor but i have a pig tail connection direct to the battery, No fuses to worry about...

We carry the 'Slime Power Sport' with us, have had it for 2 years now with no problems. I like that it plugs directly into the charging pigtail.
