Jury duty, that is. Got called up yesterday for a case of terrorizing and assault. Supposed to be two day trial, ended after third witness when it was discovered the state had evidence that the defense never saw - that's a no-no.
Interesting way to spend the day, and I'll get fifty bucks for it. Sorry, no pictures.

I was a juror on a case maybe 15 years ago, The trail lasted 3 days before the guilty guy coped a plea.....The interesting thing was before they picked me ,The judge ask me all kinds of questions, One of them was what kind of bumper stickers do you have on your car, If any?.... I refused to say....Then he said if you don't tell i'll find you in-contempt.
So i said here goes....Kennedy Killed More People With His Car Then I did With My Gun...
The Judge smiled and said , ''Can you be fair''!... I said to myself i don't want to go back to the great unwashed [Jury Pool] So i said yes i can... The Public Defender didn't like it, But he was out of objections.......

They called in 30 people, 27 showed up. They picked 24 for the first cut. Lawyers asked the questions to each of us, name, married?, kids? job? how long in ND? Then they asked the group - any friends or relatives in the jury pool? Any in law enforcement that handled the case? anyone see news about the case on media or internet?
The lawyers then passed a list of names back and forth 6 times. Each time they would each cross off a name until there was 12, and we were the jury...
Called three times and never a trial. Last time the guy took off back to Mexico before the court date. Turned 70 so will not be called again. Thought about staying available but decided I didn't need that anymore - might interfere with scooter riding.
I get called every two years or so. Most of the time I get to tell them about my false arrest and imprissonment case and that usually gets me off. LOL ... for some reason, being accused falsely by a police officer and jailed without having been read your rights, "taints" most peoples views, so when they hear about it, they tend not to "choose" me.
However, the last time, I was specifically asked about my views on the police. I explained that even though I had a rough experience with an officer that was less than honest, I believed most of them are hard working and driven to protect and serve. The defense was out of objections and the prosecution took a chance.
The jury voted me foreman .. LOL .. go figure. The case involved a guy that was in possession of enough drugs to be selling the stuff. He was also carrying an unlicensed gun. The last charge was resisting arrest. When the police tried to question him, he ran. We found him guilty of all charges except the resisting arrest. By all accounts, both prosecution and defense, the police never identified themselves as police. Since he was also "Illegal", he ran.
It was a fascinating experience and an honor to serve our justice system, especially since I think we got it right.
Good for you for serving Ron, fascinating experience isn’t it? Over the years I've been on 2 trials, and served 6 months on a Grand Jury, we met every Friday at 8 AM for 4 hours. I'm over the hill now so don't have to worry about being called.
