    Default RR Crossing Rough

    The town I live in is surounded by RR tracks....some double, and most are terribly rough.

    The handlebars rocks from side to side and it's hard to hang on.

    I installed a fork brace (after I noticed the back half of the front fender had cracked), and it has helped minimally.

    I slow right down, and it's still not great.

    Lately, I've tried to put forward pressure on the handlebars which seems to help.

    Am I the only one struggling with RR tracks?

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.....RWO

    Maybe you are already doing this, if not try making sure that you are crossing the tracks at right angles, not going at an angle when crossing.

    Crossing any bump like a rr track or driveway curb at anything other than a right angle will cause the handlebar reaction you are describing. It's the nature of a trike.
    Wing with Roadsmith kit, Traxxion Ak20 cartridges and Accuride System.

    07 ST 1300 for two-wheeled fun!

    The factory built HD trikes have a steering dampener. I only get one shake from a bump . My sister had a GL conversion and I noticed it was far worst on RR crossings etc. than mine. I assume it was due to the dampener and/or rake.

    Slowing down & crossing the tracks at a slight angle going over them should help. same thing approaching a high curb driveway.

    Thanks for your replies...Most of thr tracks around here are perpendicular to the road, but for some reason the crossings are poorly done. Maybe the Township requests bad crossings as a means of slowing people down....ha...ha

    Some tracks can be crossed at high speed and others not so much.

    That's what makes it so frustrating...we know it can be done.

    I will continue slowing right down with hands firmly pushing forwards onto the handlebars. Hopefully the fix I made on the fender holds up.

    Red Wing One, I also noticed the handlebars on my trike When I crossed a RR track near my home. Luckily I was traveling slow and had no serious issues. It did make me think though.

    Are these steering dampers only on the HD trikes and no other HD's? Certainly would be a good idea to be installed by every bike manufacturer with the tendacies for wobbles in many models especially after a few miles or as tires wear. I think many crotch rockets have them affixed (or built in internally) from the factory.

    I have A 06 Goldwing Champion SA with super brace and 4 degree rack kit. I do get some wobble over RR tracks but feel that is common for my trike.

    I was running a MPA rear tire in reverse for a front tire as that was supposed to be the Trick setup. Got 23,000 (+ or _ ) miles out of them

    Changed last year to the new Avon front made for Tries and what a difference. Smoother and quiet and hardly any wear in 10,000 miles.
