    Default Harley Soap Box

I have been doing alot of thinking and testing, Below u will see my SoapBox Comments

1 / Many say bad things about NEW engines and bikes

I after testing my own come to this

2/ The new M8 DOES run hotter, that said it is suppose to, It also cools down much quicker than a TC Mine runs @ 300degrees and I am pushing it hard@ 16 percent throttle hiway and HOT Florida temps

If the MOCO had NOT spent at least 2 years testing it they Never would have marketed it, or they would be stuck with HUGE recalls and plenty of LOYALISTS PO d @ them never to buy their products again

3/ The aftermarket has ALWAYS stepped up {The MOCO} depends on this, tho they instruct their LAWYERS {read LIARS] to keep an eye on them

The MOCO wants it all BUT not @ their expense

SO the aftermarket is busy trying to find beta testers LIKE me to volunter to blindly follow them and maybe blow their warranty?

4/ Warranty HUH, an ugly and expensive word

We want the warranty, yet we do every thing we can{counter productive} according to many to insure we will be holding a bag of dried Camel dung

5 /Everything is RELATIVE speaking, what Joe the Rag Man said on another Forum or FaceCrook has EVERYONE believing and jumping off the first cliff they can find

6 /IMO from today's testing of my M8, I found that taking off the air deflector I made that bolts on the bottom of the fork triple tree reduced the engine heat by over 35 degrees, this is documented on my tuner, I can record it and store my readings

7/ Last, I have beat a Dead Horse again, this MAY fall on deaf ears, I dunno about y'all, I am going to continue to beta test products, and I will NOT void my warranty.

Thank y'all for listening. Ride safe and Smart, Wear a Condom if ur afraid Just Kidding

I keep watching you 2017 guys trying to decide if the rider and passenger heat issue is fixed stock. You mentioned heat. Are you talking engine heat only? If you've had a passenger, did they have trouble with heat up the right side?

    Thanks

My wife said that she does not feel more heat as the passenger on our 2017 Tri-Glide. She said it has less heat for her than our 2009 Tri-Glide did.

We had over 55,000 miles on the 09 and so far only 7,167 miles on the 17.

I can say, The Redhead( my wife Denise) enjoys riding again. Less heat on her R Foot, tho when I touch her leg I can feel it. She does NOT complain. WE r planing a longer ride to get away this week end, I will follow up.

I have stage 1, tuner and mods I have done

I will detail them later, I am still playing with it, I will not decat the headpipe, I believe I am getting enough back pressure to make the exhaust happy with my modified Fishtail Drag exhaust

One should expect some heat ... the Harley is an air cooled machine, gonna be some heat, especially when stuck in traffic. Even my new to me 2008 Gold Wing (water cooled) has burnt my leg already when I had my leg up on the highway peg. Tried to stretch and bumped the valve cover (yep ... in shorts) ... just another scar ... LOL.

My point is, if you want to ride in cool comfort ... the Stallions have AC's I think. So do most cars. The thing I love about riding (maybe not so much as I get older) is being "in the wind". Bugs, rain, sun, heat, and all the rest are part of the experience.

    JMHO ..

I missed 40 or so years Married raising a family paying for a home College for Brats. Not complaining just a fact Old Shiney gets hot if I'm not careful she will burn me. and I really enjoy it. figure it out Duh. Disclaimer

So... It's a air cooled Harley it is better now than it was but not a water cooled car. Suck it up butter cup just ride the damn thing! (that is what my Bride tells me all the time when I want to improve Old Shiney) Oops I would not have it any other way. ride safely Fred

I don't disagree with what you've said. And I appreciate your Gold Wing experience (I've had three of those through the years).

What I was looking for from the 2017 Harley riders is if the heat that Harley Davidson recognized was there in previous designs fixed the heat problems by moving the Catalytic Convertors a little more to the rear and away from the passengers right foot a little more.

Also in the new design, the engine is said to run cooler (which appears to not be the case).

Another new step Harley has taken is adding a fan that is advertised to cool the Engine and Passenger better.

So with all that said yes it is an air cooled design and we should expect some heat. But, there are attempts by Harley and others to engineer that heat to manageable levels for both the engines sake and the rider and passenger.

So that's why I'm curious if the 2017 guys notice the difference from their early model Trikes.

If u r talking about the rear fan that HD sells as an add on, IMO save ur cash. Love Juggs would be best. If HD was smarter the fans{ should be 3}} 1 pusher and 1 puller fan assembly per cylinder. This would work better, NOT JUST MY OPINION, I have seen this work on an EVO trike with a BIG Ultima motor that never ran right. Bottom line the fans should be hooked up to a collector tube, the tube should exit the trike to the road near the back tire on the left so the tires vacuum could help pull the heat, U say vacuum? Yup the rotating force of the wheel will produce a low pressure area akin to a vacuum, IMO the tube leading from 1 fan should also have a smaller fan near the end of the exist, JMO

If y'all want more info OR a poorly drawn picture of this set up I can do it, I cannot give y'all the actual picture, It does not belong to me and is 4 sale right now, and has been already tested and trued. It is American made and it can be retro fitted to almost any trike on the road today.
