Default 2004 Road King: Frankenstein Kit

I've been debating for the last 3 months, but I finally took the plunge and ordered my trike kit for my 2004 Road King Classic.

I ordered the Frankenstein Premium Combo kit (trike kit, exhaust, and triple tree) with dual brakes and the parking brake kit.

I'll take pictures and post them here as I work through the conversion.

Congrats!! I'm still loving mine with no regrets. Just a heads up, you might need the dealer to reprogram your bank angle sensor to trike mode so it doesn't shut off on a sharp curve thinking the bike tipped.

Smile My kit is on the way

I ordered my kit after 4 pm on Monday July 10th and it shipped out yesterday, Monday July 17th. That is less than 5 working days.

According to UPS, it will be delivered Wednesday the 19th. You can't beat that!

Wow thats fast shipping! I had to wait 6 weeks to get mine. I ordered raider body style from a different company for my sportster conversion. We are in the paint stage now. Can't wait to see pics of your build.

I received my trike kit yesterday. I haven't inventoried every bolt yet, but am impressed with the packing and efficiency of Frankenstein Trikes. It is in 5 boxes with everything foamed and wrapped exceptionally well. Each box has a list of the contents on the outside. All of the installation instructions are in a folder with a handful of toolbox stickers and they sent t-shirts for my wife and I. T-shirts and stickers are small touches, but are an indication that the business cares about the customer.

In addition to my kit, I ordered a parking brake kit for my wife's sportster. I'll install that first, but hope to start on mine this weekend.

    Default Started the build today

I started installing my Frankenstein kit on the Road King today. So far, no real issues. Just taking my time and going step by step. The directions aren't 100% complete, but it is a pretty straightforward install.

I got the swingarm and rear end under the bike. To finish up the rear, I need to adjust the belt tension, bleed the brakes, finish up the parking brake, and install the fenders.

Then on to the triple tree.

    Default Rode it today

I got to work on the trike today. I bled the brakes, installed the exhaust, adjusted the belt tension and rode it around the neighborhood. I hadn't installed the triple tree, but wanted to compare before and after the triple tree installation. It rode pretty well.

Then I installed the triple tree and took her for another ride. The new triple tree was a lot better. So, it was well worth the extra cost and effort.

I have a few things left to do, but I need the parts that are coming in this week to finish. My to do list is

    1. New shocks (should be in Wednesday).

    2. Install parking brake

    3. Fenders (should be back from paint this week)

    4. Wire the power for my tour pak (I found one on ebay that matches my bike color )

    5. Passenger pad for tour pak (I have one ordered. Should be here is the next week or two)

Right now, I'm pretty happy. The trike rides pretty nice and the install was easier than I imagined it would be.

A few pictures from today are attached.

I wired up the power to my tour pak today. At this point, I've done everything I can until my fenders and shocks get here.

It took longer for them to get the paint than anticipated, so I am still waiting on my fenders. Last Friday, they said they would be ready today. So hopefully I can button everything up this week.

I did put about 50 miles on the trike last Saturday and everything seems good.

I should be able to post pictures this weekend.

Really looking good. I bet it rides like a dream. That red and black combo is gonna be a sharp lookin' finished project. How is the belt tension adjusted when assembling?

    Thanks.

For the belt, you tighten it to factory specs using tensioners on both sides of the swingarm.

I was careful to make sure my belts rides centered on the drive pulley. The tensioner on the belt side (left) is shown in the picture.
